20 Then the Lord said, “How great is the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah and how very grave their sin! 21 I must go down and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me; and if not, I will know.”
22 So the men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, while Abraham remained standing before the Lord.[a] 23 Then Abraham came near and said, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; will you then sweep away the place and not forgive it for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” 26 And the Lord said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will forgive the whole place for their sake.” 27 Abraham answered, “Let me take it upon myself to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. 28 Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And he said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.” 29 Again he spoke to him, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.” 30 Then he said, “Oh do not let the Lord be angry if I speak. Suppose thirty are found there.” He answered, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.” 31 He said, “Let me take it upon myself to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.” 32 Then he said, “Oh do not let the Lord be angry if I speak just once more. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.” 33 And the Lord went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.

20 Il Signore disse: «Siccome il grido che sale da Sodoma e Gomorra è grande e siccome il loro peccato è molto grave, 21 io scenderò e vedrò se hanno veramente agito secondo il grido che è giunto fino a me; e, se così non è, lo saprò».
22 Quegli uomini partirono di là e si avviarono verso Sodoma; ma Abraamo rimase ancora davanti al Signore. 23 Abraamo gli si avvicinò e disse: «Farai dunque perire il giusto insieme con l’empio? 24 Forse ci sono cinquanta giusti nella città; davvero farai perire anche quelli? Non perdonerai a quel luogo per amore dei cinquanta giusti che vi sono? 25 Non sia mai che tu faccia una cosa simile! Far morire il giusto con l’empio, in modo che il giusto sia trattato come l’empio! Non sia mai! Il giudice di tutta la terra non farà forse giustizia?» 26 Il Signore disse: «Se trovo nella città di Sodoma cinquanta giusti, perdonerò a tutto il luogo per amor di loro».
27 Abraamo riprese e disse: «Ecco, prendo l’ardire di parlare al Signore, benché io non sia che polvere e cenere. 28 Forse, a quei cinquanta giusti ne mancheranno cinque; distruggerai tutta la città per cinque di meno?» E il Signore: «Se ve ne trovo quarantacinque, non la distruggerò».
29 Abraamo continuò a parlargli e disse: «Forse se ne troveranno quaranta». E il Signore: «Non lo farò, per amore dei quaranta».
30 Abraamo disse: «Non si adiri il Signore e io parlerò. Forse se ne troveranno trenta». E il Signore: «Non lo farò, se ne trovo trenta».
31 Abraamo disse: «Ecco, prendo l’ardire di parlare al Signore. Forse se ne troveranno venti». E il Signore: «Non la distruggerò per amore di venti».
32 Abraamo disse: «Non si adiri il Signore, e io parlerò ancora questa volta soltanto. Forse se ne troveranno dieci». E il Signore: «Non la distruggerò per amore dei dieci».
33 Quando il Signore ebbe finito di parlare ad Abraamo, se ne andò. E Abraamo ritornò alla sua abitazione.

20 Und der Herr sprach: Das Geschrei über Sodom und Gomorra ist groß, und ihre Sünde ist sehr schwer.
21 Darum will ich hinabsteigen und sehen, ob sie es wirklich ganz nach dem Geschrei über sie getrieben haben, das vor mich gekommen ist, oder ob nicht; ich will es wissen!
22 Und die Männer wandten ihr Angesicht von dort und gingen nach Sodom; aber Abraham blieb noch stehen vor dem Herrn.
23 Und Abraham trat näher und sprach: Willst du auch den Gerechten mit dem Gottlosen wegraffen?
24 Vielleicht gibt es fünfzig Gerechte in der Stadt; willst du die wegraffen und den Ort nicht verschonen um der fünfzig Gerechten willen, die darin sind?
25 Das sei ferne von dir, dass du eine solche Sache tust und den Gerechten tötest mit dem Gottlosen, dass der Gerechte sei wie der Gottlose. Das sei ferne von dir! Sollte der Richter der ganzen Erde nicht gerecht richten?
26 Der Herr sprach: Wenn ich fünfzig Gerechte in Sodom finde, in der Stadt, so will ich um ihretwillen den ganzen Ort verschonen!
27 Und Abraham antwortete und sprach: Ach siehe, ich habe es gewagt, mit dem Herrn zu reden, obwohl ich nur Staub und Asche bin!
28 Vielleicht gibt es fünf weniger als fünfzig Gerechte darin; willst du denn die ganze Stadt verderben um der fünf willen? Er sprach: Wenn ich darin fünfundvierzig finde, so will ich sie nicht verderben!
29 Und er fuhr weiter fort mit ihm zu reden und sprach: Vielleicht finden sich vierzig darin. Er aber sprach: Ich will ihnen nichts tun um der vierzig willen!
30 Und Abraham sprach: Möge es [meinen] Herrn nicht erzürnen, wenn ich noch weiter rede! Vielleicht finden sich dreißig darin. Er aber sprach: Wenn ich dreißig darin finde, so will ich ihnen nichts tun!
31 Und er sprach: Ach siehe, ich habe es gewagt, mit [meinem] Herrn zu reden: Vielleicht finden sich zwanzig darin. Er antwortete: Ich will sie nicht verderben um der zwanzig willen!
32 Und er sprach: Ach, zürne nicht, [mein] Herr, dass ich nur noch diesmal rede: Vielleicht finden sich zehn darin. Er aber sprach: Ich will sie nicht verderben um der zehn willen!
33 Und der Herr ging hinweg, als er mit Abraham ausgeredet hatte; Abraham aber kehrte wieder an seinen Ort zurück.

20 Akkor az Örökkévaló Ábrahámhoz fordult: „Sodoma és Gomora bűne már az égre kiált. Áldozataik hozzám kiáltanak segítségért. 21 Lemegyek hát oda, hogy magam is lássam, valóban olyan gonosz dolgokat tesznek-e, ahogy áldozataik panaszolják, vagy nem.”
22 A másik két férfi továbbment Sodoma felé, az Örökkévaló azonban még ott maradt Ábrahám előtt. 23 Akkor Ábrahám közelebb lépett az Örökkévalóhoz, és megkérdezte: „Valóban el akarod pusztítani az ártatlan embereket is Sodomában a gonoszokkal együtt[a]? 24 Ha van ötven igaz a városban, akkor is mindenestül elpusztítod egész Sodomát? Nem kíméled meg a várost az ötven igaz kedvéért? 25 Nem, ezt el sem tudom képzelni! Lehetetlen, hogy ugyanúgy megöld az igazakat, mint a gonoszokat! Az Örökkévaló válaszolt: „Ha találok ott negyvenöt igazat, megkímélem a várost.”
29 „De ha csak negyvenet találsz?” — kérdezte Ábrahám.
„Ha negyvenet találok, akkor is megkímélem” — felelte az Örökkévaló.
30 „Ne haragudj meg rám Uram, ha még ezek után is szólok! Lehet, hogy csak harmincan vannak” — folytatta Ábrahám.
„Nem fogom elpusztítani a várost, ha találok harmincat” — válaszolt az Örökkévaló.
31 Ábrahám így folytatta: „Kérlek, Uram, hadd szóljak még egyszer! Lehet, hogy csak húsz igaz ember van a városban.”
„Ha csak húszat találok, akkor is megkímélem” — felelte az Örökkévaló.
32 „Ne haragudj meg rám Uram, hogy még egyszer szólni merészelek! Lehet, hogy csak tíz igazat találsz ott” — mondta Ábrahám.
„Ha legalább tízet találok, akkor sem pusztítom el” — felelte az Örökkévaló.
33 Miután az Örökkévaló befejezte a beszélgetést Ábrahámmal, továbbment, Ábrahám pedig hazatért.

20 Alors l’Eternel dit à Abraham : De graves accusations contre Sodome et Gomorrhe sont montées jusqu’à moi : leur perversité est énorme. 21 Je veux y descendre pour voir si leur conduite est vraiment conforme à ce que j’entends dire. Et si ce n’est pas le cas, je le saurai.
22 Là-dessus, ces hommes partirent en direction de Sodome, tandis qu’Abraham continuait à se tenir en présence de l’Eternel[a]. 23 Il s’approcha et dit : Vas-tu vraiment faire périr le juste avec le coupable ? 24 Peut-être y a-t-il cinquante justes dans la ville ; vas-tu aussi les faire périr ? Ne pardonneras-tu pas à la ville à cause de ces cinquante justes qui sont au milieu d’elle ? 25 Tu ne peux pas faire cela ! Tu ne peux pas traiter de la même manière le juste et le coupable et faire mourir le juste avec le méchant ! Toi qui juges la terre entière, n’agirais-tu pas selon le droit ?
26 L’Eternel lui répondit : Si je trouve à Sodome cinquante justes, je pardonnerai à toute la ville à cause d’eux.
27 Abraham reprit : Je ne suis que poussière et cendre, et pourtant j’ai osé parler à mon Seigneur. 28 Peut-être que des cinquante justes, il en manquera cinq. A cause de ces cinq hommes en moins, vas-tu détruire toute la ville ?
Dieu répondit : Non, je ne la détruirai pas si j’y trouve quarante-cinq justes.
29 Abraham reprit à nouveau la parole et dit : Peut-être ne s’y trouvera-t-il que quarante justes ?
Et Dieu dit : A cause de ces quarante, je ne la détruirai pas.
30 Abraham poursuivit : Que mon Seigneur ne se fâche pas si j’insiste. Peut-être n’y aura-t-il que trente justes ?
Et Dieu dit : Si j’en trouve trente, je ne détruirai pas la ville.
31 Abraham reprit : Voilà que j’ai osé parler à mon Seigneur. Mais peut-être s’en trouvera-t-il seulement vingt.
Et Dieu répondit : A cause de ces vingt, je ne détruirai pas la ville.
32 Abraham dit : Que mon Seigneur ne se mette pas en colère, et je parlerai une dernière fois. Peut-être ne s’y trouvera-t-il que dix justes.
Et Dieu dit : A cause de ces dix, je ne détruirai pas Sodome.
33 Quand il eut fini de s’entretenir avec Abraham, l’Eternel s’en alla et Abraham retourna chez lui.
