18 耶和华在幔利橡树那里向亚伯拉罕显现。天正热的时候，亚伯拉罕坐在帐棚门口。 2 他举目观看，看哪，有三个人站在他附近。他一看见，就从帐棚门口跑去迎接他们，俯伏在地， 3 说：“我主，我若在你眼前蒙恩，请不要离开你的仆人走过去。 4 容我拿点水来，请你们洗脚，在树下休息。 5 既然你们来到仆人这里了，我再拿点饼来，让你们恢复心力，然后再走。”他们说：“就照你说的去做吧。” 6 亚伯拉罕急忙进帐棚到撒拉那里，说：“你赶快拿三细亚细面，揉面做饼。” 7 亚伯拉罕又跑到牛群里，牵了一头又嫩又好的牛犊来，交给仆人，仆人就急忙去预备。 8 亚伯拉罕取了乳酪和奶，以及预备好了的牛犊来，摆在他们面前，自己在树下站在旁边，他们就吃了。
9 他们对亚伯拉罕说：“你妻子撒拉在哪里？”他说：“看哪，在帐棚里。” 10 有一位说：“明年这时候[a]，我一定会回到你这里。看哪，你的妻子撒拉会生一个儿子。”撒拉在那人后面的帐棚门口也听见了。 11 亚伯拉罕和撒拉都年纪老迈，撒拉的月经已停了。 12 撒拉心里窃笑，说：“我已衰老，我的主也老了，怎能有这喜事呢？” 13 耶和华对亚伯拉罕说：“撒拉为什么窃笑，说：‘我已年老，果真能生育吗？’ 14 耶和华岂有难成的事吗？到了所定的时候，我必回到你这里。明年这时候，撒拉会生一个儿子。” 15 撒拉因为害怕，就不承认，说：“我没有笑。”那人说：“不，你的确笑了。”
亚伯拉罕为所多玛祈求
16 三人从那里起程，面向所多玛观望，亚伯拉罕与他们同行，要送他们一程。 17 耶和华说：“我所要做的事岂可瞒着亚伯拉罕呢？ 18 亚伯拉罕必要成为强大的国；地上的万国都必因他得福。 19 我拣选他[b]，为要叫他命令他的子孙和后代家属遵行耶和华的道，秉公行义，使耶和华所应许亚伯拉罕的话都实现了。” 20 耶和华说：“所多玛和蛾摩拉罪恶极其严重，控告他们的声音很大。 21 我要下去察看他们所做的，是否真的像那达到我这里的声音一样；如果不是，我也要知道。”
22 二人转身离开那里，往所多玛去；但亚伯拉罕仍然站在耶和华面前。 23 亚伯拉罕近前来，说：“你真的要把义人和恶人一同剿灭吗？ 24 假若那城里有五十个义人，你真的还要剿灭，不因城里这五十个义人饶了那地方吗？ 25 你绝不会做这样的事，把义人与恶人一同杀了，使义人与恶人一样。你绝不会这样！审判全地的主岂不做公平的事吗？” 26 耶和华说：“我若在所多玛城里找到五十个义人，我就为他们的缘故饶恕那整个地方。” 27 亚伯拉罕回答说：“看哪，我虽只是尘土灰烬，还敢向主说话。 28 假若这五十个义人少了五个，你就因为少了五个而毁灭全城吗？”他说：“我在那里若找到四十五个，就不毁灭。” 29 亚伯拉罕又对他说：“假若在那里找到四十个呢？”他说：“为这四十个的缘故，我也不做。” 30 亚伯拉罕说：“求主不要生气，容我说，假若在那里找到三十个呢？”他说：“我在那里若找到三十个，我也不做。” 31 亚伯拉罕说：“看哪，我还敢向主说，假若在那里找到二十个呢？”他说：“为这二十个的缘故，我也不毁灭。” 32 亚伯拉罕说：“求主不要生气，我再说一次，假若在那里找到十个呢？”他说：“为这十个的缘故，我也不毁灭。” 33 耶和华与亚伯拉罕说完了话就走了；亚伯拉罕也回到自己的地方去了。

The Son of Promise(A)
18 Then the Lord appeared to him by [a]the (B)terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day. 2 (C)So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; (D)and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground, 3 and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant. 4 Please let (E)a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. 5 And (F)I will bring a morsel of bread, that (G)you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, (H)inasmuch as you have come to your servant.”
They said, “Do as you have said.”
6 So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quickly, make ready three measures of fine meal; knead it and make cakes.” 7 And Abraham ran to the herd, took a tender and good calf, gave it to a young man, and he hastened to prepare it. 8 So (I)he took butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree as they ate.
9 Then they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?”
So he said, “Here, (J)in the tent.”
10 And He said, “I will certainly return to you (K)according to the time of life, and behold, (L)Sarah your wife shall have a son.”
(Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.) 11 Now (M)Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and [b]Sarah (N)had passed the age of childbearing. 12 Therefore Sarah (O)laughed within herself, saying, (P)“After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my (Q)lord being old also?”
13 And the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old?’ 14 (R)Is anything too hard for the Lord? (S)At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”
15 But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid.
And He said, “No, but you did laugh!”
Abraham Intercedes for Sodom
16 Then the men rose from there and looked toward Sodom, and Abraham went with them (T)to send them on the way. 17 And the Lord said, (U)“Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, 18 since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be (V)blessed in him? 19 For I have known him, in order (W)that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” 20 And the Lord said, “Because (X)the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their (Y)sin is very grave, 21 (Z)I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, (AA)I will know.”
22 Then the men turned away from there (AB)and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. 23 And Abraham (AC)came near and said, (AD)“Would You also (AE)destroy the (AF)righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it? 25 Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so (AG)that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! (AH)Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
26 So the Lord said, (AI)“If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.”
27 Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am (AJ)but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: 28 Suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous; would You destroy all of the city for lack of five?”
So He said, “If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.”
29 And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose there should be forty found there?”
So He said, “I will not do it for the sake of forty.”
30 Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Suppose thirty should be found there?”
So He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”
31 And he said, “Indeed now, I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose twenty should be found there?”
So He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.”
32 Then he said, (AK)“Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?”
(AL)And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.” 33 So the Lord went His way as soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.

18 And the Lord appeared to him by the (A)oaks[a] of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. 2 He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. (B)When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth 3 and said, “O Lord,[b] if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant. 4 Let a (C)little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree, 5 while I bring a morsel of bread, that (D)you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—(E)since you have come to your servant.” So they said, “Do as you have said.” 6 And Abraham went quickly into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quick! Three seahs[c] of fine flour! Knead it, and make cakes.” 7 And Abraham ran to the herd and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to a young man, who prepared it quickly. 8 Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah. 12 (J)So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, (K)“After I am worn out, and (L)my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” 13 The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ 14 (M)Is anything too hard[d] for the Lord? (N)At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” 15 But Sarah denied it,[e] saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”
16 Then the men set out from there, and they looked down toward Sodom. And Abraham went with them to set them on their way. 17 The Lord said, (O)“Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, 18 seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be (P)blessed in him? 19 For I have (Q)chosen[f] him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.” 20 Then the Lord said, “Because (R)the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, 21 (S)I will go down to see whether they have done altogether[g] according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, (T)I will know.”
Abraham Intercedes for Sodom
22 (U)So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham (V)still stood before the Lord. 23 Then Abraham drew near and said, (W)“Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, (X)so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! (Y)Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” 26 And the Lord said, (Z)“If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”
27 Abraham answered and said, (AA)“Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. 28 Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And he said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.” 29 Again he spoke to him and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.” 30 Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there.” He answered, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.” 31 He said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.” 32 Then he said, (AB)“Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.” 33 And the Lord went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

18 CHÚA xuất hiện gặp Áp-ra-ham cạnh các cây sồi ở Mam-rê khi ông đang ngồi tại cửa trại vào một ngày trời nắng nóng. 2 Vừa ngước mắt nhìn lên, ông thấy ba người đứng trước mặt mình, ông liền rời cửa trại chạy ra chào đón và sấp mình xuống đất.
3 Áp-ra-ham thưa: “Thưa Chúa, nếu tôi được ơn dưới mắt Chúa, xin đừng bỏ qua đầy tớ Chúa. 4 Xin cho tôi đem một ít nước để các vị rửa chân và kính mời các vị nghỉ mát dưới bóng cây. 5 Cho tôi lấy bánh để các vị ăn lót dạ rồi hãy lên đường, vì các vị đã hạ cố đến thăm nhà đầy tớ Chúa.” Ba người ấy đáp:
“Hãy cứ làm theo như ngươi nói.”
6 Áp-ra-ham vội vã vào trại bảo Sa-ra: “Mau lên, lấy ba đấu bột mịn nhồi rồi làm bánh đi.”
7 Áp-ra-ham chạy đến bầy gia súc, chọn một con bê béo, giao cho đầy tớ nấu dọn gấp. 8 Áp-ra-ham đem sữa và bơ cùng thịt con bê đã nấu xong, dọn ra trước mặt ba người ấy rồi đứng hầu gần bàn dưới tán cây trong khi họ ăn.
9 Họ hỏi Áp-ra-ham: “Sa-ra vợ ngươi ở đâu?” Áp-ra-ham thưa: “Nàng ở trong trại.”
10 Một vị bảo: “Độ một năm nữa, Ta sẽ trở lại đây thăm con. Khi đó, Sa-ra, vợ con sẽ có một con trai.”
Sa-ra đứng nghe tại cửa trại sau lưng vị ấy. 11 Áp-ra-ham đã già và Sa-ra tuổi cũng đã cao. Sa-ra đã quá tuổi sinh con. 12 Sa-ra cười thầm tự bảo: “Già như tôi mà còn được niềm vui làm mẹ nữa sao! Chúa tôi cũng đã già quá rồi!”
13 CHÚA hỏi Áp-ra-ham: “Tại sao Sa-ra cười và nói: ‘Già cả như tôi thể này mà thật còn sinh con được sao?’ 14 Có điều gì quá khó cho CHÚA không? Đúng kỳ ấn định, trong một năm nữa, Ta sẽ trở lại thăm con, lúc ấy Sa-ra sẽ có một con trai.”
15 Sa-ra sợ hãi, chối rằng: “Con có cười đâu!”
Chúa đáp: “Thật, con đã có cười!”
Áp-ra-ham Cầu Xin Chúa Dung Thứ Thành Sô-đôm
16 Các vị đứng dậy lên đường hướng về Sô-đôm. Áp-ra-ham theo tiễn chân họ đi. 17 CHÚA nói: “Ta có nên giấu Áp-ra-ham điều Ta sẽ làm không? 18 Áp-ra-ham sẽ thành một dân tộc lớn, hùng cường và mọi dân tộc trên thế giới sẽ nhờ người mà được phước. 19 Vì Ta đã chọn Áp-ra-ham để người hướng dẫn con cháu và gia nhân theo người vâng giữ đường lối của CHÚA, làm điều phải và công chính, để CHÚA có thể thực hiện các lời Ngài đã hứa với Áp-ra-ham.”
20 Bấy giờ CHÚA bảo Áp-ra-ham: “Tiếng than oán về Sô-đôm và Gô-mô-rơ quá lớn, tội ác chúng nó thật nghiêm trọng. 21 Ta sẽ xuống đó xem có đúng như tiếng than vãn đã thấu đến Ta không. Nếu không thì Ta sẽ biết.”
22 Các người ấy quay đi về hướng Sô-đôm, nhưng Áp-ra-ham còn đứng lại trước mặt CHÚA. 23 Áp-ra-ham đến gần CHÚA và hỏi: “CHÚA tiêu diệt người công chính chung với người ác sao? 24 Nếu có năm mươi người công chính trong thành thì sao? CHÚA sẽ tiêu diệt hay CHÚA sẽ dung thứ họ vì năm mươi người công chính ở giữa họ.” 25 “CHÚA không bao giờ làm việc ấy! Không bao giờ CHÚA diệt người công chính chung với kẻ ác! Không bao giờ CHÚA đối xử với người công chính cũng giống như những người ác. Không thể như vậy! Đấng Phán Xét tối cao của cả thế giới không xét xử công minh sao.”
26 CHÚA đáp: “Nếu Ta tìm thấy năm mươi người công chính trong thành Sô-đôm thì vì cớ họ Ta sẽ dung thứ cả thành.”
27 Áp-ra-ham tiếp lời: “Thưa CHÚA, con xin liều lĩnh thưa với CHÚA, dù con chỉ là tro bụi. 28 Nhỡ thiếu năm người công chính trong số năm mươi người công chính đó, CHÚA có tiêu diệt cả thành không?”
CHÚA đáp: “Nếu Ta tìm được bốn mươi lăm người công chính, Ta sẽ không tiêu diệt nó!”
29 Áp-ra-ham lại nói với CHÚA: “Thưa CHÚA, nếu chỉ có bốn mươi người công chính thì sao?”
CHÚA đáp: “Vì cớ bốn mươi người đó, Ta sẽ không tiêu diệt nó.”
30 Rồi ông nói: “Xin CHÚA đừng giận, cho con được thưa: ‘Nếu trong thành có ba mươi người công chính thì sao?’ ”
CHÚA trả lời: “Ta sẽ chẳng tiêu diệt nó nếu Ta tìm được ba mươi người công chính.”
31 Áp-ra-ham nói: “Con lại liều lĩnh xin thưa với CHÚA: Nếu chỉ có hai mươi người công chính thì sao?”
CHÚA đáp: “Vì hai mươi người đó, Ta sẽ chẳng tiêu diệt nó.”
32 Áp-ra-ham lại thưa: “Xin CHÚA đừng giận, con chỉ xin thưa một lời nữa: Nếu trong đó có mười người công chính thì sao?”
CHÚA đáp: “Vì cớ mười người đó, Ta cũng chẳng tiêu diệt nó!”
33 Xong câu chuyện với Áp-ra-ham, CHÚA ra đi, Áp-ra-ham quay về trại.
