Abraham and the Covenant of Circumcision

17 Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, ^(A)the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him,

³ Abram ^(F)fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying,

⁶ I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and ^(J)kings will come from you. ⁷ I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your ^[f]descendants after you throughout their generations as an ^(K)everlasting covenant, ^(L)to be God to you and ^(M)to your ^[g]descendants after you. ⁸ And ^(N)I will give to you and to your ^[h]descendants after you the land where you live as a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and ^(O)I will be their God.”

⁵ Now then, ^(A)if you will indeed obey My voice and ^(B)keep My covenant, then you shall be ^(C)My ^[a]own possession among all the peoples, for ^(D)all the earth is Mine; ⁶ and you shall be to Me ^(E)a kingdom of priests and ^(F)a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”

The Journey Resumed

33 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Depart, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought up from the land of Egypt, to the land of which ^(A)I swore to Abraham, ^(B)Isaac, and ^(C)Jacob, saying, ‘^(D)To your ^[a]descendants I will give it.’ ² And I will send ^(E)an angel before you and ^(F)I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. ³ Go up to a land ^(G)flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, because you are ^[b](H)an obstinate people, and ^(I)I might destroy you on the way.”
