16 Igitur Sarai, uxor Abram, non genuerat liberos: sed habens ancillam aegyptiam nomine Agar,
2 dixit marito suo: Ecce, conclusit me Dominus, ne parerem. Ingredere ad ancillam meam, si forte saltem ex illa suscipiam filios. Cumque ille acquiesceret deprecanti,
3 tulit Agar aegyptiam ancillam suam post annos decem quam habitare coeperant in terra Chanaan: et dedit eam viro suo uxorem.
4 Qui ingressus est ad eam. At illa concepisse se videns, despexit dominam suam.
5 Dixitque Sarai ad Abram: Inique agis contra me: ego dedi ancillam meam in sinum tuum, quae videns quod conceperit, despectui me habet: judicet Dominus inter me et te.
6 Cui respondens Abram: Ecce, ait, ancilla tua in manu tua est, utere ea ut libet. Affligente igitur eam Sarai, fugam iniit.
7 Cumque invenisset eam angelus Domini juxta fontem aquae in solitudine, qui est in via Sur in deserto,
8 dixit ad illam: Agar ancilla Sarai, unde venis? et quo vadis? Quae respondit: A facie Sarai dominae meae ego fugio.
9 Dixitque ei angelus Domini: Revertere ad dominam tuam, et humiliare sub manu illius.
10 Et rursum: Multiplicans, inquit, multiplicabo semen tuum, et non numerabitur prae multitudine.
11 Ac deinceps: Ecce, ait, concepisti, et paries filium: vocabisque nomen ejus Ismael, eo quod audierit Dominus afflictionem tuam.
12 Hic erit ferus homo: manus ejus contra omnes, et manus omnium contra eum: et e regione universorum fratrum suorum figet tabernacula.
13 Vocavit autem nomen Domini qui loquebatur ad eam: Tu Deus qui vidisti me. Dixit enim: Profecto hic vidi posteriora videntis me.
14 Propterea appellavit puteum illum Puteum viventis et videntis me. Ipse est inter Cades et Barad.
15 Peperitque Agar Abrae filium: qui vocavit nomen ejus Ismael.
16 Octoginta et sex annorum erat Abram quando peperit ei Agar Ismaelem.

16 1-2 Contudo, Sarai e Abrão não tinham filhos. Então Sarai, pensando que o Senhor a tinha impedido de gerar, chamou a sua escrava chamada Agar, que era egípcia, e deu-a a Abrão como segunda mulher: “Se ela tiver filhos serão meus.” Abrão concordou com a proposta de Sarai.
3 E assim aconteceu, dez anos depois de Abrão ter chegado à terra de Canaã. Sarai, sua mulher, tomou Agar, a egípcia, e a entregou como mulher, ao seu marido, Abrão. 4 Ele concordou; tomou Agar e ela concebeu. A criada, quando viu que ficou grávida, tornou-se muito arrogante para com a sua senhora.
5 Então Sarai disse a Abrão: “A culpa disto tudo é tua; dei eu própria a esta minha criada o privilégio de ser tua mulher e agora despreza-me! Que seja o Senhor mesmo a julgar esta questão entre mim e ti!”
6 Respondeu-lhe Abrão: “Tens toda a liberdade para castigar a mulher como entenderes.” Sarai maltratou-a e ela teve de fugir. 7 O anjo do Senhor achou-a perto do deserto, junto duma fonte, no caminho para Sur: 8 “Agar, tu és a criada de Sarai e estás aqui? Donde vens? Para onde vais?”
“Venho fugida da casa de Sarai, a minha senhora”, foi a resposta.
9 “Volta para a tua senhora e obedece-lhe; 10 porque hei de fazer de ti uma grande nação, um povo que se multiplicará de forma incontável. 11 O filho que vais ter chamar-se-á Ismael, pois o Senhor te ouviu na tua aflição. 12 Este teu filho há de vir a ter um carácter rebelde, tão livre e indomável como um jumento selvagem! Será contra todos, e toda a gente será contra ele. Mas viverá perto dos que são da sua raça.”
13 A partir de então, Agar passou a referir-se ao Senhor, que era quem falava com ela, como o Deus que olha por mim. E pensou para si: “Na verdade, eu vi a Deus, mas depois de ele me ter visto primeiro a mim.” 14 Mais tarde, esse poço ficou a ser chamado Poço de Laai-Roi.[a] Fica entre Cades e Berede.
15 Assim, Agar deu um filho a Abrão e este chamou-lhe Ismael. 16 Tinha então Abrão a idade de 86 anos.

16 Ora, Sarai, mulher de Abrão, não lhe gerava filhos, e ele tinha uma serva egípcia, cujo nome era Agar. 2 E disse Sarai a Abrão: Eis que o Senhor me tem impedido de gerar; entra, pois, à minha serva; porventura, terei filhos dela. E ouviu Abrão a voz de Sarai. 3 Assim, tomou Sarai, mulher de Abrão, a Agar, egípcia, sua serva, e deu-a por mulher a Abrão, seu marido, ao fim de dez anos que Abrão habitara na terra de Canaã. 4 E ele entrou a Agar, e ela concebeu; e, vendo ela que concebera, foi sua senhora desprezada aos seus olhos. 5 Então, disse Sarai a Abrão: Meu agravo seja sobre ti. Minha serva pus eu em teu regaço; vendo ela, agora, que concebeu, sou menosprezada aos seus olhos. O Senhor julgue entre mim e ti. 6 E disse Abrão a Sarai: Eis que tua serva está na tua mão; faze-lhe o que bom é aos teus olhos. E afligiu-a Sarai, e ela fugiu de sua face.
7 E o Anjo do Senhor a achou junto a uma fonte de água no deserto, junto à fonte no caminho de Sur. 8 E disse: Agar, serva de Sarai, de onde vens e para onde vais? E ela disse: Venho fugida da face de Sarai, minha senhora. 9 Então, lhe disse o Anjo do Senhor: Torna-te para tua senhora e humilha-te debaixo de suas mãos. 10 Disse-lhe mais o Anjo do Senhor: Multiplicarei sobremaneira a tua semente, que não será contada, por numerosa que será. 11 Disse-lhe também o Anjo do Senhor: Eis que concebeste, e terás um filho, e chamarás o seu nome Ismael, porquanto o Senhor ouviu a tua aflição. 12 E ele será homem bravo; e a sua mão será contra todos, e a mão de todos, contra ele; e habitará diante da face de todos os seus irmãos. 13 E ela chamou o nome do Senhor, que com ela falava: Tu és Deus da vista, porque disse: Não olhei eu também para aquele que me vê? 14 Por isso, se chama aquele poço de Laai-Roi; eis que está entre Cades e Berede.
15 E Agar deu um filho a Abrão; e Abrão chamou o nome do seu filho que tivera Agar, Ismael. 16 E era Abrão da idade de oitenta e seis anos, quando Agar deu Ismael a Abrão.

16 亞伯蘭的妻子撒萊，沒有為他生孩子。撒萊卻有一個婢女，是埃及人，名叫夏甲。 2 撒萊對亞伯蘭說：“請看，耶和華使我不能生育，求你去親近我的婢女，或者我可以從她得孩子。”亞伯蘭就聽從了撒萊的話。 3 亞伯蘭在迦南地住滿了十年，他的妻子撒萊，把自己的婢女埃及人夏甲，給了她的丈夫亞伯蘭為妾。 4 亞伯蘭與夏甲親近，夏甲就懷了孕。夏甲見自己有了孕，就輕看她的主母。 5 撒萊對亞伯蘭說：“我因你受屈；我把我的婢女送到你的懷中，她見自己有了孕，就輕看我。願耶和華在你我之間主持公道。” 6 亞伯蘭對撒萊說：“你的婢女在你手中，你看怎樣好，就怎樣待她吧。”於是撒萊虐待夏甲，她就從撒萊面前逃走了。
7 耶和華的使者在曠野的水泉旁邊，就是在到書珥路上的水旁邊，遇到了她， 8 就問她：“撒萊的婢女夏甲啊，你從哪裡來？要到哪裡去？”夏甲回答：“我從我的主母撒萊面前逃出來。” 9 耶和華的使者對她說：“回到你主母那裡去，服在她的手下！” 10 耶和華的使者又對她說：“我必使你的後裔人丁興旺，多到不可勝數。” 11 耶和華的使者再對她說：
“看哪，你已經懷了孕，
你要生一個兒子；
你要給他起名叫以實瑪利，
因為耶和華聽見了你的苦情。
12 他將來為人，
必像野驢。
他的手要攻打人，
人的手也要攻打他。
他必住在眾兄弟的東面。”
13 於是，夏甲給那對她說話的耶和華，起名叫“你是看顧人的 神”，因為她說：“在這裡我不是也看見了那位看顧人的嗎？” 14 因此，這井名叫庇耳．拉海．萊，是在加低斯和巴列之間。
15 夏甲給亞伯蘭生了一個兒子，亞伯蘭就給夏甲所生的兒子，起名叫以實瑪利。 16 亞伯蘭八十六歲的時候，夏甲給他生了以實瑪利。

Hagar and Ishmael
16 Abram’s wife, Sarai, had not borne any children for him, but she owned an Egyptian slave named Hagar. 2 Sarai said to Abram, ‘Since the Lord has prevented me from bearing children, go to my slave; perhaps through her I can build a family.’ And Abram agreed to what Sarai said.(A) 3 So Abram’s wife, Sarai, took Hagar, her Egyptian slave, and gave her to her husband, Abram, as a wife for him. This happened after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan for ten years. 4 He slept with[a] Hagar, and she became pregnant. When she saw that she was pregnant, her mistress became contemptible to her. 5 Then Sarai said to Abram, ‘You are responsible for my suffering![b] I put my slave in your arms,[c] and when she saw that she was pregnant, I became contemptible to her. May the Lord judge between me and you.’(B)
6 Abram replied to Sarai, ‘Here, your slave is in your power; do whatever you want with her.’ Then Sarai mistreated her so much that she ran away from her.
7 The angel of the Lord(C) found her by a spring in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur. 8 He said, ‘Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going? ’
She replied, ‘I’m running away from my mistress Sarai.’
9 The angel of the Lord said to her, ‘Go back to your mistress and submit to her authority.’ 10 The angel of the Lord said to her, ‘I will greatly multiply your offspring,(D) and they will be too many to count.’
11 The angel of the Lord said to her, ‘You have conceived and will have a son. You will name him Ishmael,[d] for the Lord has heard your cry of affliction. 12 This man will be like a wild donkey. His hand will be against everyone, and everyone’s hand will be against him; he will settle near all his relatives.’(E)
13 So she named the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are El-roi,’[e] for she said, ‘In this place, have I actually seen(F) the one who sees me? ’[f] 14 That is why the well is called Beer-lahai-roi.[g] It is between Kadesh and Bered.
15 So Hagar gave birth to Abram’s son, and Abram named his son (whom Hagar bore) Ishmael. 16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to him.
