The Abrahamic Covenant
15 Some time later, a message came from the Lord to Abram in a vision. “Stop being afraid, Abram.” he said. “I myself—your shield—am your very great reward.”
2 But Abram replied, “Lord God, what can you give me since I continue to be childless, and the heir of my household is Eliezer from Damascus? 3 Look!” Abram said, “You haven’t given me any offspring, so a servant born in[a] my house is going to be my heir.”
4 A message came from the Lord to him again: “This one will not be your heir. Instead, the child who will be born to you[b] will be your heir.” 5 Then the Lord[c] took him outside. “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if you can!” he said. “Your descendants will be that numerous.”[d] 6 Abram believed the Lord, and it was credited to him as righteousness.
7 The Lord[e] spoke to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land as an inheritance.”
8 But he replied, “Lord God, how will I know that I will inherit it?”
9 The Lord responded, “Bring me a three-year-old cow, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”
10 So Abram brought him all these animals and cut each of them in half, down the middle, placing the pieces opposite each other, but he did not cut the birds in half. 11 When birds of prey swooped down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away. 12 As the sun began to set, Abram was overcome with deep sleep, and suddenly a frightening and terrifying darkness descended on him.
13 Then the Lord told Abram, “You can be certain about this: Your descendants will be foreigners in a land that isn’t theirs. They will be slaves there and will be oppressed for 400 years. 14 However, I will judge the nation that they serve, and later they will leave there with many possessions. 15 Now as for you, you’ll die peacefully, join your ancestors, and be buried at a good old age. 16 Your descendants[f] will return here in the fourth generation, since the iniquity of the Amorites has not yet run its course.”
17 When the sun had fully set and it was dark, a smoking fire pot and a fiery torch passed between the animal pieces.[g] 18 That very day the Lord made this covenant with Abram: “I’m giving[h] this land to your descendants, from the river of Egypt to the great Euphrates River— 19 including the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, 20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, 21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

15 這些事以後，耶和華的話在異象中臨到亞伯蘭說：
“亞伯蘭，你不要懼怕，
我是你的盾牌；
你的賞賜是很大的。”
2 亞伯蘭說：“主耶和華啊，我一向都沒有孩子，你還能賜給我甚麼呢？這樣，承受我家業的，就是大馬士革人以利以謝了。” 3 亞伯蘭又說：“你既然沒有給我後裔，那生在我家中的人，就是我的繼承人了。” 4 耶和華的話又臨到亞伯蘭說：“這人必不會作你的繼承人；你親生的才會是你的繼承人。” 5 於是領他到外面去，說：“你向天觀看，數點眾星，看你能不能把它們數得清楚。”又對他說：“你的後裔將要這樣眾多。” 6 亞伯蘭信耶和華，耶和華就以此算為他的義了。 7 耶和華又對亞伯蘭說：“我是耶和華，曾經把你從迦勒底的吾珥領出來，為要把這地賜給你作產業。” 8 亞伯蘭說：“主耶和華啊，我憑甚麼能知道我必得這地為業呢？” 9 耶和華對他說：“你給我拿一頭三歲的母牛犢，一隻三歲的母山羊，一隻三歲的公綿羊，一隻斑鳩和一隻雛鴿。” 10 亞伯蘭就把這一切拿了來，每樣都從當中劈開，一半一半相對擺列；只是鳥卻沒有劈開。 11 有鷙鳥下來，落在這些屍骸上，亞伯蘭就把牠們嚇走了。
12 日落的時候，亞伯蘭沉沉地睡著了，忽然有可怕的大黑暗落在他身上。 13 耶和華對亞伯蘭說：“你要確實地知道，你的後裔必在外地寄居，也必服事那地的人，那地的人苦待他們四百年。 14 他們所要服事的那國，我要親自懲罰。後來他們必帶著很多財物，從那裡出來。 15 你必得享長壽，被人埋葬，平平安安地回到你列祖那裡。 16 到了第四代，他們必回到這裡，因為亞摩利人的罪孽還沒有滿盈。” 17 日落天黑的時候，忽然有冒煙的爐和燒著的火把，從那些肉塊中經過。 18 就在那時候，耶和華與亞伯蘭立約說：
“我已經把這地賜給你的後裔了，
就是從埃及河直到幼發拉底河之地；
19 就是基尼人、基尼洗人、甲摩尼人、 20 赫人、比利洗人、利乏音人、 21 亞摩利人、迦南人、革迦撒人、耶布斯人之地。”

15 ଏହିସବୁ ଘଟିଯିବା ପରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କର ବାକ୍ୟ ଦର୍ଶନରେ ଅବ୍ରାମ ନିକଟକୁ ଆସିଲା। ଏହା କହି,
“ହେ ଅବ୍ରାମ ଭୟ କର ନାହିଁ। ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭର ଢାଲ।
ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ମହାପୁରସ୍କାର ଦେବି।”
2 କିନ୍ତୁ ଅବ୍ରାମ କହିଲେ, “ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ପରମେଶ୍ୱର, ମୋତେ ପୁରସ୍କାର ଦେଇ କ’ଣ ଭଲ ହେବ? ମୁଁ ସନ୍ତାନ ବିନା ମରିବାକୁ ଯାଉଛି। ସେଥିପାଇଁ ଦମ୍ମେସକର ମୋର ମୁଖ୍ୟ ସେବକ ଇଲିୟେଜର ମୋର ସମ୍ପତ୍ତି ଅଧିକାର କରିବ।” 3 ପୁଣି ଅବ୍ରାମ କହିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେ ମୋତେ ସନ୍ତାନ ଦେଲ ନାହିଁ। ସେଥିପାଇଁ ମୋ’ ଗୃହର ଜଣେ ସଦସ୍ୟ ମୋର ଉତ୍ତରାଧିକାରୀ ହେବ।”
4 ତା'ପରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଅବ୍ରାମଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ଦେଖ ସେହି ଦାସଟି ତୁମ୍ଭର ଉତ୍ତରାଧିକାରୀ ହେବ ନାହିଁ। ମାତ୍ର ଯେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ଔରସରେ ଜାତ ହେବ, ସେହି ତୁମ୍ଭର ଉତ୍ତରାଧିକାରୀ ହେବ।”
5 ଏହା ପରେ ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ତାଙ୍କୁ ବାହାରକୁ ନେଲେ ଓ କହିଲେ, “ଊର୍ଦ୍ଧ୍ୱରେ ଆକାଶକୁ ଦେଖ ଏବଂ ତାରାଗଣ ଗଣନା କର, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଯଦି ତାକୁ ଗଣନା କରି ପାରିବ।” ଏବଂ ସେ ମଧ୍ୟ କହିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭର ବଂଶଧର ତାରାଗଣ ପରି ବହୁସଂଖ୍ୟକ ହେବେ।”
6 ଅବ୍ରାମ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କୁ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ କଲେ ଏବଂ ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ତାଙ୍କର ବିଶ୍ୱାସକୁ ଧାର୍ମିକତାର କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ବୋଲି ବିବେଚନା କଲେ। 7 ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଅବ୍ରାମଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ମୁଁ ସେହି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ, ଯିଏ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ କଲଦୀୟମାନଙ୍କର ଊରଠାରୁ ଏହି ଦେଶ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଦେବା ପାଇଁ ବାହାର କରି ଆଣିଲି।”
8 କିନ୍ତୁ ଅବ୍ରାମ କହିଲେ, “ହେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ, ମୋର ପ୍ରଭୁ ମୁଁ ଯେ ଏ ଦେଶର ଅଧିକାରୀ ହେବି, ତାହା ମୁଁ କିପରି ଜାଣିବି?”
9 ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଉତ୍ତର ଦେଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଏକ ତିନି ବର୍ଷର ବାଛୁରି, ଗୋଟିଏ ତିନି ବର୍ଷର ମାଇ ଛେଳି, ଗୋଟିଏ ତିନି ବର୍ଷର ମେଣ୍ଢା, ଗୋଟିଏ କପୋତ ଏବଂ ଗୋଟିଏ ଯୁବା କପୋତ ମୋ’ ନିକଟକୁ ଆଣ।”
10 ସେ ସବୁକୁ ସେ ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ନିକଟକୁ ଆଣିଲେ ଏବଂ ଦୁଇ ଖଣ୍ଡ କରି କାଟିଲେ, ଏବଂ ସେଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଦୁଇ ଧାଡ଼ିରେ ରଖି ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଅଧାର ଉପରେ ଆଉ ଅଧା ଯୁକ୍ତ ଚିହ୍ନ ଭାବରେ ରଖିଲେ। କିନ୍ତୁ ସେ ପକ୍ଷୀମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦୁଇ ଖଣ୍ଡ କଲେ ନାହିଁ। 11 ଏହା ପରେ, ଅନ୍ୟ ବନ୍ୟ ପକ୍ଷୀ ସେହି ମୃତ ପ୍ରାଣୀଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଝାମ୍ପ ମାରିଲେ ଏବଂ ଅବ୍ରାମ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ଘଉଡ଼ାଇ ଦେଲେ।
12 ଯେତେବେଳେ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟାସ୍ତ ହେଉଥିଲା ଅବ୍ରାମ ଘୋର ନିଦ୍ରାରେ ଶୋଇ ପଡ଼ିଲେ ଏବଂ ହଠାତ୍ ତାଙ୍କ ଉପରକୁ ଏକ ଭୟଙ୍କର ଅନ୍ଧକାର ଆସିଲା ଓ ସେ ଆତଙ୍କିତ ହୋଇଗଲେ। 13 ତା'ପରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଅବ୍ରାମଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଏ ବିଷୟରେ ନିଶ୍ଚିତ ହୋଇ ପାରିବ, ତୁମ୍ଭର ବଂଶଧର ବିଦେଶରେ ପ୍ରବାସୀ ହେବେ ଏବଂ କ୍ରୀତଦାସ ହେବେ ଏବଂ 400 ବର୍ଷ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ କ୍ଳେଶ ଭୋଗ କରିବେ। 14 କିନ୍ତୁ ଯେଉଁ ଜାତିମାନେ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ କ୍ରୀତଦାସ କରିବେ ସେମାନଙ୍କର ମୁଁ ବିଗ୍ଭର କରିବି ଏବଂ ତାହାପରେ ପ୍ରଚୁର ଧନ ସହିତ ସେମାନେ ସ୍ୱାଧୀନ ହେବେ।
15 “ତଥାପି ତୁମ୍ଭ ନିମନ୍ତେ, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଶାନ୍ତିରେ ମରିବ ଏବଂ ତୁମ୍ଭର ପୂର୍ବପୁରୁଷଙ୍କ ସହିତ ମିଳିତ ହେବ ଏବଂ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ବହୁତ ବୃଦ୍ଧ ବୟସରେ କବର ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ ହେବ। 16 ପୁଣି ଏହି ଦେଶକୁ ତୁମ୍ଭ ବଂଶର ଚତୁର୍ଥ ପୁରୁଷ ଫେରିବେ। କାରଣ ଯେଉଁ ଇମୋରୀୟମାନେ ଏଠାରେ ବାସ କରନ୍ତି, ସେମାନଙ୍କର ପାପ ଏପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଶେଷ ହୋଇ ନାହିଁ।”
17 ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟାସ୍ତ ପରେ, ଯେତେବେଳେ ଏହା ଘୋର ଅନ୍ଧକାର ହେଲା, ଏକ ଧୂଆଁ ବାହାରୁଥିବା ପାତ୍ର ଏବଂ ଜ୍ୱଳନ୍ତ ମଶାଲ ହଠାତ୍ ଦେଖାଗଲା ଏବଂ ତାହା ଦୁଇ ଧାଡ଼ିରେ ଥିବା ମୃତ ପଶୁଗୁଡ଼ିକର ଖଣ୍ଡସବୁ ମଧ୍ୟଦେଇ ଗଲା।
18 ସେହି ଦିନ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଅବ୍ରାମଙ୍କ ସହିତ ଏକ ଚୁକ୍ତି କଲେ। ସେ କହିଲେ, “ମୁଁ ଏହି ଦେଶ ତୁମ୍ଭର ବଂଶଧରଙ୍କୁ ଦେଲି। ମିଶରୀୟ ନଦୀଠାରୁ ମହାନ ନଦୀ ଫରାତ୍ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଏହି ଦେଶ ତୁମ୍ଭର ପରିବାରକୁ ମୁଁ ଦେଲି। 19 କେନୀୟମାନଙ୍କର, କନଜୀୟମାନଙ୍କର ଓ କଦ୍ମୋନୀୟମାନଙ୍କର ଭୂମି ଏହିସବୁ। 20 ହୀତ୍ତୀୟମାନଙ୍କର, ପରିଜୀୟମାନଙ୍କର ଓ ରଫାୟୀୟମାନଙ୍କର 21 ଇମୋରୀୟମାନଙ୍କର, କିଣାନୀୟମାନଙ୍କର, ଓ ଗିର୍ଗାଶୀୟମାନଙ୍କର ଓ ଯିବୂଷୀୟମାନଙ୍କର ଦେଶ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଦେଲି।”
