Abram Rescues Lot
14 In the days that Amraphel was king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goyim, 2 they made war with Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboyim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar). 3 All these were joined together in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Dead Sea). 4 For twelve years they had served Kedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
5 In the fourteenth year, Kedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and defeated the Rephaites in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, and the Emites in Shaveh Kiriathaim, 6 and the Horites in their hill country of Seir, as far as El Paran, which is by the wilderness. 7 Then they turned back and came to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh) and conquered all the country of the Amalekites and also the Amorites who lived in Hazezon Tamar.
8 Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboyim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) came out, and they joined together in battle in the Valley of Siddim 9 against Kedorlaomer, the king of Elam, Tidal king of Goyim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five. 10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some fell in them, and the rest fled to the hill country. 11 Then they took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and departed. 12 They also took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who lived in Sodom, and his possessions, and went their way.
13 Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living near the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshkol and Aner, and these were allies with Abram. 14 When Abram heard that his relative was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants born in his own house, and pursued them as far as Dan. 15 During the night he divided his men to attack them and defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. 16 He brought back all the possessions, along with his relative Lot and his possessions, and also the women and the people.
Melchizedek Blesses Abram
17 After his return from the defeat of Kedorlaomer and the kings who had joined with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).
18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was the priest of God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said,
“Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
Creator[a] of heaven and earth;
20 and blessed be God Most High,
who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”
Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people and take the goods for yourself.”
22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted up my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that I will take nothing that is yours, not a thread or a sandal strap; lest you say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ 24 I will accept only that which my men have eaten and the portion that belongs to the men who went with me, Aner, Eshkol, and Mamre. Let them take their portion.”

14 En tiempos de Amrafel, rey de Senaar, se juntaron Arioc, rey de Elasar, Codorlaomer, rey de Elam, y Tidal, rey de Goín, 2 para declarar la guerra a Berá, rey de Sodoma, a Birsá, rey de Gomorra, a Sinab, rey de Adamá, a Semebar, rey de Seboín y al rey de Bela, es decir, de Soar. 3 Estos cinco últimos aunaron fuerzas en el valle de Sidín, en el Mar Muerto. 4 Durante doce años habían sido vasallos de Codorlaomer, pero en el año décimo tercero se sublevaron contra él. 5 Al año siguiente, el décimo cuarto, vinieron Codorlaomer y sus reyes aliados y derrotaron a los refaítas en Astarot Carnáin, a los zuzíes en Ham, a los emitas en la llanura de Quiriatáin 6 y a los hurritas, en las montañas de Seír, cerca de El-Parán, que está próximo al desierto. 7 Al volver, llegaron a En-Mispat (o sea, Cadés) y conquistaron todo el territorio de los amalecitas y también el de los amorreos que vivían en la región de Jasasón Tamar.
8 Entonces los reyes de Sodoma, Gomorra, Adamá, Seboín y Belá, o sea, Soar, llegaron al valle de Sidín y presentaron batalla 9 a Codorlaomer, rey de Elam, a Tidal, rey de Goín, a Amrafel, rey de Senaar y a Arioc, rey de Elasar. Eran cuatro reyes contra cinco.
10 El valle de Sidín estaba lleno de pozos de alquitrán y, cuando los reyes de Sodoma y Gomorra intentaron huir, cayeron en ellos. Los demás huyeron a los montes.
11 Los vencedores saquearon todos los bienes de Sodoma y Gomorra, así como sus víveres. Y cuando se marcharon 12 se llevaron con ellos a Lot, el sobrino de Abrán, que vivía en Sodoma, con todas sus posesiones.
13 Uno de los que habían escapado fue a dar aviso a Abrán, el hebreo, que estaba acampado junto al encinar de Mambré, el amorreo, que era hermano de Escol y de Aner, aliados de Abrán.
14 Al enterarse Abrán de que su sobrino había sido llevado cautivo, reclutó a trescientos dieciocho criados nacidos en su casa y se lanzó a su búsqueda hasta Dan. 15 Durante la noche, Abrán y sus criados se situaron estratégicamente, atacaron a los raptores y los persiguieron hasta Jobá, al norte de Damasco. 16 Así Abrán recuperó todo el botín y rescató a Lot, su sobrino, con todas sus pertenencias, a las mujeres y al resto de los cautivos.

17 Cuando Abrán volvía de derrotar a Codorlaomer y a sus reyes aliados, el rey de Sodoma salió a su encuentro en el valle de Save, el valle del Rey.
18 Y Melquisedec, rey de Salem y sacerdote del Dios Altísimo, le ofreció pan y vino, 19 y bendijo a Abrán con estas palabras:
¡Que el Dios Altísimo,
creador del cielo y de la tierra
bendiga a Abrán!
20 ¡Bendito sea el Dios Altísimo,
que entregó en tus manos a tus enemigos!
Entonces Abrán dio a Melquisedec el diezmo de todo. 21 El rey de Sodoma dijo a Abrán:
— Dame las personas y quédate con los bienes.
22 Pero Abrán le respondió:
— He jurado solemnemente por el Señor, Dios Altísimo, creador del cielo y de la tierra, 23 que no tomaré nada de lo que es tuyo, ni siquiera un hilo ni la correa de una sandalia. Así nunca podrás decir que tú me hiciste rico. 24 No quiero nada para mí, excepto lo que ya han comido los criados. En cuanto a los hombres que me han acompañado, es decir, Aner, Escol y Mambré, que tomen su parte.

5 In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him came and attacked (G)the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, (H)the Zuzim in Ham, (I)the Emim in Shaveh Kiriathaim, 6 (J)and the Horites in their mountain of Seir, as far as El Paran, which is by the wilderness. 7 Then they turned back and came to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and attacked all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who dwelt (K)in Hazezon Tamar.
8 And the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out and joined together in battle in the Valley of Siddim 9 against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of [b]nations, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five. 10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of (L)asphalt pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled; some fell there, and the remainder fled (M)to the mountains. 11 Then they took (N)all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and went their way. 12 They also took Lot, Abram’s (O)brother’s son (P)who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
13 Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the (Q)Hebrew, for (R)he dwelt by [c]the terebinth trees of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner; (S)and they were allies with Abram. 14 Now (T)when Abram heard that (U)his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were (V)born in his own house, and went in pursuit (W)as far as Dan. 15 He divided his forces against them by night, and he and his servants (X)attacked them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is [d]north of Damascus. 16 So he (Y)brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people.
17 And the king of Sodom (Z)went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the (AA)King’s Valley), (AB)after his return from the [e]defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him.

18 Then (AD)Melchizedek king of Salem brought out (AE)bread and wine; he was (AF)the priest of (AG)God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said:
(AH)“Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
(AI)Possessor of heaven and earth;
20 And (AJ)blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”
And he (AK)gave him [f]a tithe of all.
21 Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the [g]persons, and take the goods for yourself.”
22 But Abram (AL)said to the king of Sodom, “I (AM)have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, (AN)the Possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that (AO)I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’— 24 except only what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.”

14 At the time when Amraphel was king of Shinar,[a](A) Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer(B) king of Elam(C) and Tidal king of Goyim, 2 these kings went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboyim,(D) and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).(E) 3 All these latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim(F) (that is, the Dead Sea Valley(G)). 4 For twelve years they had been subject to Kedorlaomer,(H) but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
5 In the fourteenth year, Kedorlaomer(I) and the kings allied with him went out and defeated the Rephaites(J) in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites(K) in Shaveh Kiriathaim 6 and the Horites(L) in the hill country of Seir,(M) as far as El Paran(N) near the desert. 7 Then they turned back and went to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh),(O) and they conquered the whole territory of the Amalekites,(P) as well as the Amorites(Q) who were living in Hazezon Tamar.(R)
8 Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah,(S) the king of Admah, the king of Zeboyim(T) and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar)(U) marched out and drew up their battle lines in the Valley of Siddim(V) 9 against Kedorlaomer(W) king of Elam,(X) Tidal king of Goyim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five. 10 Now the Valley of Siddim(Y) was full of tar(Z) pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah(AA) fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills.(AB) 11 The four kings seized all the goods(AC) of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away. 12 They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot(AD) and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.
13 A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew.(AE) Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre(AF) the Amorite, a brother[b] of Eshkol(AG) and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram. 14 When Abram heard that his relative(AH) had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained(AI) men born in his household(AJ) and went in pursuit as far as Dan.(AK) 15 During the night Abram divided his men(AL) to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.(AM) 16 He recovered(AN) all the goods(AO) and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.
17 After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer(AP) and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom(AQ) came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).(AR)
18 Then Melchizedek(AS) king of Salem(AT) brought out bread(AU) and wine.(AV) He was priest of God Most High,(AW) 19 and he blessed Abram,(AX) saying,
“Blessed be Abram by God Most High,(AY)
Creator of heaven and earth.(AZ)
20 And praise be to God Most High,(BA)
who delivered your enemies into your hand.”
Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.(BB)
21 The king of Sodom(BC) said to Abram, “Give me the people and keep the goods(BD) for yourself.”
22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom,(BE) “With raised hand(BF) I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High,(BG) Creator of heaven and earth,(BH) 23 that I will accept nothing belonging to you,(BI) not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’ 24 I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me—to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre.(BJ) Let them have their share.”
