The Call of Abram

12 Now ^(A)the Lord said^[a] to Abram, “Go from your country^[b] and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. ^2 (B)And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. ^3 (C)I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and ^(D)in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”^[c]

^11 (A)from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And ^(B)I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that ^(C)the Lord will make you a house. ^12 (D)When your days are fulfilled and ^(E)you lie down with your fathers, ^(F)I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. ^13 (G)He shall build a house for my name, and ^(H)I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. ^14 (I)I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, ^(J)I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, ^15 (K)but my steadfast love will not depart from him, ^(L)as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. ^16 (M)And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me.^{[a] (N)}Your throne shall be established forever.’” ¹⁷ In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.

The New Covenant

^31 (A)“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make ^(B)a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, ³² not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when ^(C)I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, ^(D)though I was their husband, declares the Lord. ^33 (E)For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: ^(F)I will put my law within them, and I will write it ^(G)on their hearts. ^(H)And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ³⁴ And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ ^(I)for they shall all know me, ^(J)from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For ^(K)I will forgive their iniquity, and ^(L)I will remember their sin no more.”

^11 (A)He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was ^(B)to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well, ¹² and to make him the father of the circumcised who are not merely circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

²⁵ In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

¹⁷ then he adds,

¹⁸ Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

The Full Assurance of Faith

^19 (C)Therefore, brothers,^[a] since we have confidence to enter ^(D)the holy places by the blood of Jesus, ²⁰ by ^(E)the new and living way that he opened for us through ^(F)the curtain, that is, through his flesh, ²¹ and since we have ^(G)a great priest over the house of God, ²² let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts ^(H)sprinkled clean ^(I)from an evil conscience and our bodies ^(J)washed with pure water.
