Genesis 11:3-5

New King James Version

³Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and ^[a]bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. ⁴And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower ^(A)whose top is in the heavens; let us make a ^(B)name for ourselves, lest we ^(C)be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

⁵^(D)But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

³They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks^(A) and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone,^(B) and tar^(C) for mortar. ⁴Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens,^(D) so that we may make a name^(E) for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered^(F) over the face of the whole earth.”^(G)

⁵But the Lord came down^(H) to see the city and the tower the people were building.
