Descendants of Noah

10 Now these are the records of the generations of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah; and sons were born to them after the flood.

(A)The sons of Japheth were (B)Gomer and Magog and (C)Madai and (D)Javan and Tubal and (E)Meshech and Tiras. The sons of Gomer were (F)Ashkenaz and [a]Riphath and (G)Togarmah. The sons of Javan were Elishah and (H)Tarshish, Kittim and [b]Dodanim. From these the coastlands of the nations [c]were separated into their lands, every one according to his language, according to their families, into their nations.

(I)The sons of Ham were Cush and Mizraim and Put and Canaan. The sons of Cush were (J)Seba and Havilah and Sabtah and (K)Raamah and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah were (L)Sheba and (M)Dedan. Now Cush [d]became the father of Nimrod; he [e]became a mighty one on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the Lord.” 10 The beginning of his kingdom was [f](N)Babel and Erech and Accad and Calneh, in the land of (O)Shinar. 11 From that land he went forth (P)into Assyria, and built Nineveh and Rehoboth-Ir and Calah, 12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. 13 Mizraim [g]became the father of (Q)Ludim and Anamim and Lehabim and Naphtuhim 14 and (R)Pathrusim and Casluhim (from which came the Philistines) and Caphtorim.

15 Canaan [h]became the father of (S)Sidon, his firstborn, and (T)Heth 16 and (U)the Jebusite and the Amorite and the Girgashite 17 and the Hivite and the Arkite and the Sinite 18 and the Arvadite and the Zemarite and the Hamathite; and afterward the families of the Canaanite were spread abroad. 19 (V)The territory of the Canaanite [i]extended from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; as you go toward (W)Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. 20 These are the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, by their nations.

21 Also to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, and the [j]older brother of Japheth, children were born. 22 (X)The sons of Shem were (Y)Elam and Asshur and (Z)Arpachshad and (AA)Lud and Aram. 23 The sons of Aram were (AB)Uz and Hul and Gether and Mash. 24 Arpachshad [k]became the father of (AC)Shelah; and Shelah [l]became the father of Eber. 25 (AD)Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was [m]Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan. 26 Joktan [n]became the father of Almodad and Sheleph and Hazarmaveth and Jerah 27 and Hadoram and Uzal and Diklah 28 and [o]Obal and Abimael and Sheba 29 and Ophir and Havilah and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. 30 Now their [p]settlement [q]extended from Mesha as you go toward Sephar, the hill country of the east. 31 These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, according to their nations.

32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, by their nations; and (AE)out of these the nations were separated on the earth after the flood.

A Psalm of Thanksgiving for God’s Justice.

For the choir director; on [a]Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.

I will give thanks to the Lord with all (A)my heart;
I will (B)tell of all Your [b]wonders.
I will be glad and (C)exult in You;
I will (D)sing praise to Your name, O (E)Most High.

When my enemies turn back,
They stumble and (F)perish before You.
For You have (G)maintained [c]my just cause;
You have sat on the throne [d](H)judging righteously.
You have (I)rebuked the nations, You have destroyed the wicked;
You have (J)blotted out their name forever and ever.
[e]The enemy has come to an end in perpetual ruins,
And You have uprooted the cities;
The very (K)memory of them has perished.

But the (L)Lord [f]abides forever;
He has established His (M)throne for judgment,
And He will (N)judge the world in righteousness;
He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity.
[g]The Lord also will be a (O)stronghold for the oppressed,
A stronghold in times of trouble;
10 And [h]those who (P)know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, O Lord, have not (Q)forsaken those who seek You.

Return to Nazareth

39 When they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to (A)their own city of Nazareth. 40 (B)The Child continued to grow and become strong, [a]increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

Visit to Jerusalem

41 Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at (C)the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when He became twelve, they went up there according to the custom of the Feast; 43 and as they were returning, after spending the (D)full number of days, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But His parents were unaware of it, 44 but supposed Him to be in the caravan, and went a day’s journey; and they began looking for Him among their relatives and acquaintances. 45 When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem looking for Him. 46 Then, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him (E)were amazed at His understanding and His answers. 48 When they saw Him, they were astonished; and (F)His mother said to Him, “[b]Son, why have You treated us this way? Behold, (G)Your father and I [c]have been anxiously looking for You.” 49 And He said to them, “Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that (H)I had to be in My Father’s [d]house?” 50 But (I)they did not understand the statement which He [e]had made to them. 51 And He went down with them and came to (J)Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them; and (K)His mother (L)treasured all these [f]things in her heart.

52 And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and [g]stature, and in (M)favor with God and men.
