Genesis 1:14-19

New International Version

¹⁴And God said, “Let there be lights^(A) in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night,^(B) and let them serve as signs^(C) to mark sacred times,^(D) and days and years,^(E) ¹⁵and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.^(F) ¹⁶God made two great lights—the greater light^(G) to govern^(H) the day and the lesser light to govern^(I) the night.^(J) He also made the stars.^(K) ¹⁷God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, ¹⁸to govern the day and the night,^(L) and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.^(M) ¹⁹And there was evening, and there was morning^(N)—the fourth day.

¹⁰I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race.^(A) ¹¹He has made everything beautiful in its time.^(B) He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet^[a] no one can fathom^(C) what God has done from beginning to end.^(D) ¹²I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. ¹³That each of them may eat and drink,^(E) and find satisfaction^(F) in all their toil—this is the gift of God.^(G) ¹⁴I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.^(H)
