17 The flood continued forty days on the earth, and the waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth.(A) 18 The waters swelled and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the face of the waters.(B) 19 The waters swelled so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered; 20 the waters swelled above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep. 21 And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, domestic animals, wild animals, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all human beings;(C) 22 everything on dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died.(D) 23 He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, human beings and animals and creeping things and birds of the air; they were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left and those with him in the ark.(E) 24 And the waters swelled on the earth for one hundred fifty days.(F)

The Flood Subsides

But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and all the domestic animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided;(G) the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the rain from the heavens was restrained,(H) and the waters gradually receded from the earth. At the end of one hundred fifty days the waters had abated,(I)

17 For forty days(A) the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.(B) 20 The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.[a][b] (C) 21 Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.(D) 22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life(E) in its nostrils died. 23 Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth.(F) Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.(G)

24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.(H)

But God remembered(I) Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth,(J) and the waters receded. Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens(K) had been closed, and the rain(L) had stopped falling from the sky. The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days(M) the water had gone down,

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him, “As for me, I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you(A) 10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic animals, and every animal of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark.[a](B) 11 I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”(C) 12 God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations:(D) 13 I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.(E)
