Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that (A)every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (B)The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was (C)grieved [a]in His heart. The Lord said, “(D)I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the [b]sky; for (E)I am sorry that I have made them.” But (F)Noah (G)found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth(D) the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.(E) But Noah(F) found favor in the eyes of the Lord.(G)

The Flood

Then the Lord said to Noah, “Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be (A)righteous before Me in this [a]time. You shall take [b]with you of every (B)clean animal [c]by sevens, a male and his female; and of the animals that are not clean two, a male and his female; also of the birds of the [d]sky, [e]by sevens, male and female, to keep [f]offspring alive on the face of all the earth. For after (C)seven more days, I will send rain on the earth (D)forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land (E)every living thing that I have made.” (F)Noah did according to all that the Lord had commanded him.

Now Noah was (G)six hundred years old when the flood of water [g]came upon the earth. Then (H)Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark because of the water of the flood. (I)Of clean animals and animals that are not clean and birds and everything that creeps on the ground, there went into the ark to Noah [h]by twos, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10 It came about after (J)the seven days, that the water of the flood [i]came upon the earth. 11 In the (K)six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all (L)the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the [j]floodgates of the sky were opened. 12 (M)The rain [k]fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.

13 On the very same day (N)Noah and Shem and Ham and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark, 14 they and every beast after its kind, and all the cattle after [l]their kind, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, [m]all sorts of birds. 15 So they went into the ark to Noah, (O)by twos of all flesh in which was the breath of life. 16 Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him; and the Lord closed it behind him.

17 Then the flood [n]came upon the earth for (P)forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 18 The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark [o]floated on the [p]surface of the water. 19 The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains [q]everywhere under the heavens were covered. 20 The water prevailed fifteen [r]cubits higher, (Q)and the mountains were covered. 21 (R)All flesh that [s]moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 22 of all that was on the dry land, all (S)in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 23 Thus He blotted out [t]every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the [u]sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only (T)Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. 24 (U)The water prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days.

The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family,(A) because I have found you righteous(B) in this generation. Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean(C) animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive(D) throughout the earth. Seven days from now I will send rain(E) on the earth(F) for forty days(G) and forty nights,(H) and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.(I)

And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.(J)

Noah was six hundred years old(K) when the floodwaters came on the earth. And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark(L) to escape the waters of the flood. Pairs of clean and unclean(M) animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah.(N) 10 And after the seven days(O) the floodwaters came on the earth.

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life,(P) on the seventeenth day of the second month(Q)—on that day all the springs of the great deep(R) burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens(S) were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.(T)

13 On that very day Noah and his sons,(U) Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark.(V) 14 They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind,(W) everything with wings. 15 Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark.(X) 16 The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah.(Y) Then the Lord shut him in.

17 For forty days(Z) the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.(AA) 20 The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.[a][b] (AB) 21 Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.(AC) 22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life(AD) in its nostrils died. 23 Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth.(AE) Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.(AF)

24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.(AG)
