² God looks down from heaven
    on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,^[a]
    who seek after God.

³ They have all fallen away;
    together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
    not even one.

¹⁸ Let this be ^(A)recorded for ^(B)a generation to come,
    so that ^(C)a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:
¹⁹ that he ^(D)looked down from his holy height;
    from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
²⁰ to hear ^(E)the groans of the prisoners,
    to set free ^(F)those who were doomed to die,
