God’s Covenant with Creation

20 Then Noah built an (A)altar to the Lord, and took of (B)every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered (C)burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And the Lord smelled (D)a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again (E)curse the ground for man’s sake, although the (F)imagination[a] of man’s heart is evil from his youth; (G)nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.

22 “While the earth (H)remains,

The King of Glory and His Kingdom

A Psalm of David.

24 The (A)earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
For He has (B)founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the [a]waters.

(C)Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
He who has (D)clean hands and (E)a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor (F)sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
This is Jacob, the generation of those who (G)seek Him,
Who seek Your face. Selah

(H)Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
(I)And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory?

He is the King of glory. Selah

Who ever (A)goes to war at his own expense? Who (B)plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Or who (C)tends a flock and does not drink of the milk of the flock?

Do I say these things as a mere man? Or does not the law say the same also? For it is written in the law of Moses, (D)“You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.” Is it oxen God is concerned about? 10 Or does He say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written, that (E)he who plows should plow in hope, and he who threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope. 11 (F)If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things? 12 If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more?

(G)Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things (H)lest we hinder the gospel of Christ.

Who serves as a soldier(A) at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard(B) and does not eat its grapes? Who tends a flock and does not drink the milk? Do I say this merely on human authority? Doesn’t the Law say the same thing? For it is written in the Law of Moses: “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.”[a](C) Is it about oxen that God is concerned?(D) 10 Surely he says this for us, doesn’t he? Yes, this was written for us,(E) because whoever plows and threshes should be able to do so in the hope of sharing in the harvest.(F) 11 If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you?(G) 12 If others have this right of support from you, shouldn’t we have it all the more?

But we did not use this right.(H) On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder(I) the gospel of Christ.

Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: (A)“Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some (B)a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. (C)He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

The Purpose of Parables(D)

10 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”

11 He answered and said to them, “Because (E)it has been given to you to know the [a]mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 (F)For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:

(G)‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not (H)perceive;
15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears (I)are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have (J)closed,
Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I [b]should (K)heal them.’

16 But (L)blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;

Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred,(A) sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”(B)

10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven(C) has been given to you,(D) but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.(E) 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

“Though seeing, they do not see;
    though hearing, they do not hear or understand.(F)

14 In them is fulfilled(G) the prophecy of Isaiah:

“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
    you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
    they hardly hear with their ears,
    and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
    hear with their ears,
    understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[a](H)

16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.(I)
