Reuben, Israel’s firstborn, the sons of Reuben:
of Hanoch, the family of the Hanochites;
of Pallu, the family of the Palluites;
of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites;
of Carmi, the family of the Carmites.
These are the families of the Reubenites, and those who were numbered of them were (A)43,730.
And the son of Pallu: Eliab.
And the sons of Eliab:
Nemuel and Dathan and Abiram. These are the Dathan and Abiram who were (B)called upon by the congregation, who contended against Moses and against Aaron in the congregation of Korah, when they contended against Yahweh,
10 and (C)the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up along with Korah, when that congregation died, (D)when the fire consumed 250 men, so that they became a [a]warning.
11 (E)The sons of Korah, however, did not die.

The descendants of Reuben,(A) the firstborn son of Israel, were:

through Hanok,(B) the Hanokite clan;

through Pallu,(C) the Palluite clan;

through Hezron,(D) the Hezronite clan;

through Karmi,(E) the Karmite clan.

These were the clans of Reuben; those numbered were 43,730.

The son of Pallu was Eliab, and the sons of Eliab(F) were Nemuel, Dathan and Abiram. The same Dathan and Abiram were the community(G) officials who rebelled against Moses and Aaron and were among Korah’s followers when they rebelled against the Lord.(H) 10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them(I) along with Korah, whose followers died when the fire devoured the 250 men.(J) And they served as a warning sign.(K) 11 The line of Korah,(L) however, did not die out.(M)
