31 And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me;

32 And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.

33 And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation?

34 That ye shall say, Thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

47 Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.

And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.

And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.

They said morever unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.

And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:

The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.

31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were living in the land of Canaan,(A) have come to me.(B) 32 The men are shepherds;(C) they tend livestock,(D) and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.’(E) 33 When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’(F) 34 you should answer, ‘Your servants(G) have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.’(H) Then you will be allowed to settle(I) in the region of Goshen,(J) for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.(K)

47 Joseph went and told Pharaoh, “My father and brothers, with their flocks and herds and everything they own, have come from the land of Canaan(L) and are now in Goshen.”(M) He chose five of his brothers and presented them(N) before Pharaoh.

Pharaoh asked the brothers, “What is your occupation?”(O)

“Your servants(P) are shepherds,(Q)” they replied to Pharaoh, “just as our fathers were.” They also said to him, “We have come to live here for a while,(R) because the famine is severe in Canaan(S) and your servants’ flocks have no pasture.(T) So now, please let your servants settle in Goshen.”(U)

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you, and the land of Egypt is before you; settle(V) your father and your brothers in the best part of the land.(W) Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability,(X) put them in charge of my own livestock.(Y)
