Genesis 43:6-8 1599 Geneva Bible (GNV)

And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so evil with me, as to tell the man, whether ye had yet a brother or no?

And they answered, The man asked straightly of [a]ourselves and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye any brother? And we told him according to [b]these words: could we know certainly that he would say, Bring your brother down?

Then said Judah to Israel his father, Send the boy with me, that we may rise and go, and that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and our children.

Genesis 43:6-8 New International Version (NIV)

Israel asked, “Why did you bring this trouble on me by telling the man you had another brother?”

They replied, “The man questioned us closely about ourselves and our family. ‘Is your father still living?’ he asked us. ‘Do you have another brother?’ We simply answered his questions. How were we to know he would say, ‘Bring your brother down here’?”

Then Judah said to Israel his father, “Send the boy along with me and we will go at once, so that we and you and our children may live and not die.
