19 When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger.(A) 20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison,(B) the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.

But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 the Lord was with him;(C) he showed him kindness(D) and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.(E) 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.(F) 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s(G) care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.(H)

The Cupbearer and the Baker

40 Some time later, the cupbearer(I) and the baker(J) of the king of Egypt offended their master, the king of Egypt. Pharaoh was angry(K) with his two officials,(L) the chief cupbearer and the chief baker, and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard,(M) in the same prison where Joseph was confined.

19 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.

20 And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

21 But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.

23 The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the Lord was with him, and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper.

40 And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.

And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
