24 Now it was about three months later that Judah was informed, “[a]Your daughter-in-law Tamar has played the harlot, and behold, she is also with child by harlotry.” Then Judah said, “Bring her out and (A)let her be burned!” 25 It was while she was being brought out that she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “I am with child by the man to whom these things belong.” And she said, “(B)Please examine and see, whose signet ring and cords and staff are these?” 26 Judah recognized them, and said, “(C)She is more righteous than I, inasmuch as (D)I did not give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not [b]have relations with her again.

27 It came about at the time she was giving birth, that behold, there were (E)twins in her womb. 28 Moreover, it took place while she was giving birth, one put out a hand, and the midwife took and tied a scarlet thread on his hand, saying, “This one came out first.”

Judah said, “Bring her out and have her burned to death!”(A)

25 As she was being brought out, she sent a message to her father-in-law. “I am pregnant by the man who owns these,” she said. And she added, “See if you recognize whose seal and cord and staff these are.”(B)

26 Judah recognized them and said, “She is more righteous than I,(C) since I wouldn’t give her to my son Shelah.(D)” And he did not sleep with her again.

27 When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.(E) 28 As she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife(F) took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist(G) and said, “This one came out first.”
