34 So Jacob (A)tore his clothes, and put on a sackcloth undergarment over his waist, and mourned for his son many days. 35 Then all his sons and all his daughters got up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. And he said, “Surely I will (B)go down to Sheol in mourning for my son.” So his father wept for him. 36 Meanwhile, the [a]Midianites (C)sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, Pharaoh’s officer, the captain of the bodyguard.

34 Then Jacob tore his clothes,(A) put on sackcloth(B) and mourned for his son many days.(C) 35 All his sons and daughters came to comfort him,(D) but he refused to be comforted.(E) “No,” he said, “I will continue to mourn until I join my son(F) in the grave.(G)” So his father wept for him.
36 Meanwhile, the Midianites[a](H) sold Joseph(I) in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard.(J)
