²⁵ On the third day, when they were still in pain, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi,^(A) Dinah’s brothers, took their swords, went into the unsuspecting city, and killed every male. ²⁶ They killed Hamor and his son Shechem with their swords, took Dinah from Shechem’s house, and went away. ²⁷ Jacob’s sons came to the slaughter and plundered the city because their sister had been defiled. ²⁸ They took their flocks, herds, donkeys, and whatever was in the city and in the field. ²⁹ They captured all their possessions, dependents, and wives and plundered everything in the houses.

³² Joseph’s bones, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt,^(A) were buried at Shechem in the parcel of land Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver.^[a](B) It was an inheritance for Joseph’s descendants.

⁵ so he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar near the property^[a] that Jacob^(A) had given his son Joseph.^(B)
