³⁰ So Jacob called the name of the place ^[a]Peniel: “For ^(A)I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”

²⁰ But He said, “You cannot see My face; for ^(A)no man shall see Me, and live.”

^26 (A)For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

²² Now Gideon ^(A)perceived that He was the Angel of the Lord. So Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord God! ^(B)For I have seen the Angel of the Lord face to face.”

²³ Then the Lord said to him, ^(A)“Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die.”
