21 So Jacob ·sent [passed ahead of him] the ·gifts [or tribute] to Esau, but he himself stayed that night in the camp.

22 During the night Jacob rose and crossed the Jabbok River [C a tributary of the Jordan about 15 miles north of the Dead Sea in the Transjordan] at the crossing, taking with him his two wives, his two slave girls, and his eleven sons. 23 He sent his family and everything he had across the ·river [wadi; ravine].

22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his eleven sons(B) and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.(C) 23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions.(D)
