Genesis 3:17-19

¹⁷Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’;

^(A)Cursed is the ground because of you;
^(B)With ^[a]hard labor you shall eat from it
All the days of your life.
¹⁸Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;
Yet you shall eat the ^[b]plants of the field;
¹⁹By the sweat of your face
You shall eat bread,
Until you ^(C)return to the ground,
Because ^(D)from it you were taken;
For you are dust,
And to dust you shall return.”

The ground is [now] under a curse because of you;
In sorrow and toil you shall eat [the fruit] of it
All the days of your life.

“Cursed^(B) is the ground^(C) because of you;
    through painful toil^(D) you will eat food from it
    all the days of your life.^(E)
¹⁸It will produce thorns and thistles^(F) for you,
    and you will eat the plants of the field.^(G)
¹⁹By the sweat of your brow^(H)
    you will eat your food^(I)
until you return to the ground,
    since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
