¹³ And behold, ^(A)Yahweh stood ^[a]above it and said, “I am Yahweh, ^(B)the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it ^(C)to you and to ^(D)your seed. ¹⁴ And your seed will also be like ^(E)the dust of the earth, and you will ^[b]spread out ^(F)to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and ^(G)in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. ¹⁵ Behold, ^(H)I am with you and ^(I)will keep you wherever you go. And ^(J)I will bring you back to this land; for ^(K)I will not forsake you until I have done what I have ^[c]promised you.” ¹⁶ Then Jacob ^(L)awoke from his sleep and said, “^(M)Surely Yahweh is in this place, and I did not know it.” ¹⁷ And he was afraid and said, “^(N)How fearsome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

¹⁸ So Jacob rose early in the morning and took ^(O)the stone that he had put ^[d]under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on its top. ¹⁹ And he called the name of that place ^[e](P)Bethel; however, ^[f]previously the name of the city had been ^(Q)Luz.

^10 (A)And God said to him,

Thus He called his name Israel. ¹¹ God also said to him,

¹³ Then ^(G)God went up from him in the place where He had spoken with him. ¹⁴ And Jacob set up ^(H)a pillar in the place where He had spoken with him, a pillar of stone, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it. ¹⁵ So Jacob named the place where God had spoken with him, ^[d](I)Bethel.
