⁸ And Abraham breathed his last and died ^(A)in a good old age, an old man and full of days; and he was ^(B)gathered to his people.

²⁹ And Isaac breathed his last and died and was ^(A)gathered to his people, an ^(B)old man and full of days; and ^(C)his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

³⁸ But ^[a]Jacob said, “My son shall not go down with you; for his ^(A)brother is dead, and he alone remains. ^(B)If harm should befall him on the journey on which you are going, then you will ^(C)bring my gray hair down to Sheol in sorrow.”

²⁹ If you take this one also from ^[a]me and harm befalls him, you will ^(A)bring my gray hair down to Sheol in ^[b]evil.’

³¹ so it will be that when he sees that the boy is not with us, he will die. Thus your servants will ^(A)bring the gray hair of your servant our father down to Sheol in sorrow.
