Genesis 24:7-9

⁷“The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and the land of my relatives,^[a] promised me with a solemn oath,^[b] ‘To your descendants I will give this land.’ He will send his angel^[c] before you so that you may find^[d] a wife for my son from there. ⁸But if the woman is not willing to come back with you,^[e] you will be free^[f] from this oath of mine. But you must not take my son back there!” ⁹So the servant placed his hand under the thigh of his master Abraham and gave his solemn promise he would carry out his wishes.^[g]

⁷“The Lord, the God of heaven,^(A) who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land^(B) and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring^[a]^(C) I will give this land’^(D)—he will send his angel before you^(E) so that you can get a wife for my son from there. ⁸If the woman is unwilling to come back with you, then you will be released from this oath^(F) of mine. Only do not take my son back there.”^(G) ⁹So the servant put his hand under the thigh^(H) of his master^(I) Abraham and swore an oath to him concerning this matter.
