Isaac spoke to his father Abraham and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the (A)lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will [a]provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.

Then they came to (B)the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built (C)the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and (D)laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 And Abraham reached out with his hand and took the knife to [b]slaughter his son. 11 But (E)the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not reach out your hand against the boy, and do not do anything to him; for now (F)I know that you [c]fear God, since you have not withheld (G)your son, your only son, from Me.” 13 Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by its horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering in the place of his son.

Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb(A) for the burnt offering?”

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide(B) the lamb(C) for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

When they reached the place God had told him about,(D) Abraham built an altar(E) there and arranged the wood(F) on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar,(G) on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife(H) to slay his son.(I) 11 But the angel of the Lord(J) called out to him from heaven,(K) “Abraham! Abraham!”(L)

“Here I am,”(M) he replied.

12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God,(N) because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.(O)

13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram[a] caught by its horns.(P) He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.(Q)
