13 And of (A)the son of the maid I will make a nation also, because he is your [a]descendant.” 14 So Abraham rose early in the morning and took bread and a [b]skin of water and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder, and gave her the boy, and sent her away. And she departed and wandered about in the wilderness of Beersheba.

15 When the water in the skin was used up, she [c]left the boy under one of the bushes. 16 Then she went and sat down opposite him, about a bowshot away, for she said, “Do not let me [d]see the boy die.” And she sat opposite him, and (B)lifted up her voice and wept. 17 God (C)heard the lad crying; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter with you, Hagar? (D)Do not fear, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. 18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him by [e]the hand, (E)for I will make a great nation of him.”

14 Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar.(B) He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba.(C)

15 When the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of the bushes. 16 Then she went off and sat down about a bowshot away, for she thought, “I cannot watch the boy die.” And as she sat there, she[a] began to sob.(D)

17 God heard the boy crying,(E) and the angel of God(F) called to Hagar from heaven(G) and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid;(H) God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. 18 Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.(I)
