(A)This is the [a]history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, before any (B)plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the Lord God had not (C)caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man (D)to till the ground; but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.

And the Lord God formed man of the (E)dust of the ground, and (F)breathed into his (G)nostrils the breath of life; and (H)man became a living being.

And out of the ground the Lord God made (L)every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. (M)The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and (N)evil.

This is the account(A) of the heavens and the earth when they were created,(B) when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth[a] and no plant had yet sprung up,(C) for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth(D) and there was no one to work the ground, but streams[b] came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. Then the Lord God formed(E) a man[c](F) from the dust(G) of the ground(H) and breathed into his nostrils the breath(I) of life,(J) and the man became a living being.(K)

The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees(M) that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life(N) and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.(O)

Tell Me, if you have understanding.

When the morning stars sang together,
And all (B)the sons of God shouted for joy?

“Or(C) who shut in the sea with doors,
When it burst forth and issued from the womb;
When I made the clouds its garment,
And thick darkness its swaddling band;

And set bars and doors;

‘This far you may come, but no farther,
