19 The Lord God had formed all the wild animals and all the birds out of the ground. Then he brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called each creature became its name. 20 So the man named all the domestic animals, all the birds, and all the wild animals.

But the man found no helper who was right for him. 21 So the Lord God caused him to fall into a deep sleep. While the man was sleeping, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.

19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals(A) and all the birds in the sky.(B) He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called(C) each living creature,(D) that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.

But for Adam[a] no suitable helper(E) was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep;(F) and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[b] and then closed up the place with flesh.
