⁴⁰ As when God overthrew ^(A)Sodom
And Gomorrah with its neighbors,” declares Yahweh,
“No man will live there,
Nor will any son of man sojourn in it.

¹¹ “I overthrew you as ^(A)God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a ^(B)firebrand ^[a]delivered from a blaze;
Yet you have ^(C)not returned to Me,” declares Yahweh.

⁹ Therefore, as I live,” declares Yahweh of hosts,
The God of Israel,
“Surely ^(A)Moab will be like ^(B)Sodom
And the sons of ^(C)Ammon like ^(D)Gomorrah—
A place possessed by nettles and salt pits,
And a perpetual desolation.
The remnant of My people will ^(E)plunder them,
And the remainder of My nation will inherit them.”
