18 Now ^(A)the Lord appeared to him by the ^[a](B)oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day. ² When he lifted up his eyes and looked, behold, three ^(C)men were standing opposite him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth,

²⁴ Then Jacob was left alone, and a man ^(A)wrestled with him until daybreak.

³⁰ So Jacob named the place ^[a]Peniel, for he said, “^(A)I have seen God face to face, yet my ^[b]life has been preserved.”

³¹ Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw ^(A)the angel of the Lord standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand; and he bowed ^[a]all the way to the ground.
