The Lord’s Sixth Promise to Abraham
18 The Lord appeared to Abraham by the oak trees belonging to Mamre as he was sitting at the entrance of his tent during the hottest part of the day. 2 Abraham looked up, and suddenly he saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them, and he bowed with his face touching the ground.
3 “Please, sir,” Abraham said, “stop by to visit me for a while. 4 Why don’t we let someone bring a little water? After you wash your feet, you can stretch out and rest under the tree. 5 Let me bring some bread so that you can regain your strength. After that you can leave, since this is why you stopped by to visit me.”
They answered, “That’s fine. Do as you say.”
6 So Abraham hurried into the tent to find Sarah. “Quick,” he said, “get three measures of flour, knead it, and make bread.”
7 Then Abraham ran to the herd and took one of his best calves. He gave it to his servant, who prepared it quickly. 8 Abraham took cheese and milk, as well as the meat, and set these in front of them. Then he stood by them under the tree as they ate.
9 They asked him, “Where is your wife Sarah?”
He answered, “Over there, in the tent.”
10 The Lord said, “I promise I’ll come back to you next year at this time, and your wife Sarah will have a son.”
Sarah happened to be listening at the entrance of the tent, which was behind him. 11 Abraham and Sarah were old. Sarah was past the age of childbearing. 12 And so Sarah laughed to herself, thinking, “Now that I’ve become old, will I enjoy myself again? What’s more, my husband is old!”
13 The Lord asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Can I really have a child now that I’m old?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will come back to you next year at this time, and Sarah will have a son.”
15 Because she was afraid, Sarah denied that she had laughed.
But the Lord said, “Yes, you did laugh.”

18 Después le apareció Jehová en el encinar de Mamre, estando él sentado a la puerta de su tienda en el calor del día. 2 Y alzó sus ojos y miró, y he aquí tres varones que estaban junto a él; y cuando los vio, salió corriendo de la puerta de su tienda a recibirlos, y se postró en tierra, 3 y dijo: Señor, si ahora he hallado gracia en tus ojos, te ruego que no pases de tu siervo. 4 Que se traiga ahora un poco de agua, y lavad vuestros pies; y recostaos debajo de un árbol, 5 y traeré un bocado de pan, y sustentad vuestro corazón, y después pasaréis; pues por eso habéis pasado cerca de vuestro siervo. Y ellos dijeron: Haz así como has dicho. 6 Entonces Abraham fue de prisa a la tienda a Sara, y le dijo: Toma pronto tres medidas de flor de harina, y amasa y haz panes cocidos debajo del rescoldo. 7 Y corrió Abraham a las vacas, y tomó un becerro tierno y bueno, y lo dio al criado, y este se dio prisa a prepararlo. 8 Tomó también mantequilla y leche, y el becerro que había preparado, y lo puso delante de ellos; y él se estuvo con ellos debajo del árbol, y comieron.
9 Y le dijeron: ¿Dónde está Sara tu mujer? Y él respondió: Aquí en la tienda. 10 Entonces dijo: De cierto volveré a ti; y según el tiempo de la vida, he aquí que Sara tu mujer tendrá un hijo.(A) Y Sara escuchaba a la puerta de la tienda, que estaba detrás de él. 11 Y Abraham y Sara eran viejos, de edad avanzada; y a Sara le había cesado ya la costumbre de las mujeres. 12 Se rio, pues, Sara entre sí, diciendo: ¿Después que he envejecido tendré deleite, siendo también mi señor(B) ya viejo? 13 Entonces Jehová dijo a Abraham: ¿Por qué se ha reído Sara diciendo: Será cierto que he de dar a luz siendo ya vieja? 14 ¿Hay para Dios alguna cosa difícil?(C) Al tiempo señalado volveré a ti, y según el tiempo de la vida, Sara tendrá un hijo. 15 Entonces Sara negó, diciendo: No me reí; porque tuvo miedo. Y él dijo: No es así, sino que te has reído.

2 Он возвел очи свои и взглянул, и вот, три мужа стоят против него. Увидев, он побежал навстречу им от входа в шатер и поклонился до земли,
3 и сказал: Владыка! если я обрел благоволение пред очами Твоими, не пройди мимо раба Твоего;
4 и принесут немного воды, и омоют ноги ваши; и отдохните под сим деревом,
5 а я принесу хлеба, и вы подкрепите сердца ваши; потом пойдите; так как вы идете мимо раба вашего. Они сказали: сделай так, как говоришь.
6 И поспешил Авраам в шатер к Сарре и сказал: поскорее замеси три саты лучшей муки и сделай пресные хлебы.
7 И побежал Авраам к стаду, и взял теленка нежного и хорошего, и дал отроку, и тот поспешил приготовить его.
8 И взял масла и молока и теленка приготовленного, и поставил перед ними, а сам стоял подле них под деревом. И они ели.
9 И сказали ему: где Сарра, жена твоя? Он отвечал: здесь, в шатре.
10 И сказал [один из них]: Я опять буду у тебя в это же время, и будет сын у Сарры, жены твоей. А Сарра слушала у входа в шатер, сзади его.
11 Авраам же и Сарра были стары и в летах преклонных, и обыкновенное у женщин у Сарры прекратилось.
12 Сарра внутренно рассмеялась, сказав: мне ли, когда я состарилась, иметь сие утешение? и господин мой стар.
13 И сказал Господь Аврааму: отчего это рассмеялась Сарра, сказав: 'неужели я действительно могу родить, когда я состарилась'?
14 Есть ли что трудное для Господа? В назначенный срок буду Я у тебя в следующем году, и у Сарры [будет] сын.
15 Сарра же не призналась, а сказала: я не смеялась. Ибо она испугалась. Но Он сказал: нет, ты рассмеялась.

Recalling John’s Death(A)
14 King Herod heard about Jesus, because Jesus’ name had become well-known. Some people were saying, “John the Baptizer has come back to life. That’s why he has the power to perform these miracles.” 15 Others said, “He is Elijah.” Still others said, “He is a prophet like one of the other prophets.” 16 But when Herod heard about it, he said, “I had John’s head cut off, and he has come back to life!”
17 Herod had sent men who had arrested John, tied him up, and put him in prison. Herod did that for Herodias, whom he had married. (She used to be his brother Philip’s wife.) 18 John had been telling Herod, “It’s not right for you to be married to your brother’s wife.”
19 So Herodias held a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she wasn’t allowed to do it 20 because Herod was afraid of John. Herod knew that John was a fair and holy man, so he protected him. When he listened to John, he would become very disturbed, and yet he liked to listen to him.
21 An opportunity finally came on Herod’s birthday. Herod gave a dinner for his top officials, army officers, and the most important people of Galilee. 22 His daughter, that is, Herodias’ daughter, came in and danced. Herod and his guests were delighted with her. The king told the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.” 23 He swore an oath to her: “I’ll give you anything you ask for, up to half of my kingdom.”
24 So she went out and asked her mother, “What should I ask for?”
Her mother said, “Ask for the head of John the Baptizer.”
25 So the girl hurried back to the king with her request. She said, “I want you to give me the head of John the Baptizer on a platter at once.”
26 The king deeply regretted his promise. But because of his oath and his guests, he didn’t want to refuse her. 27 Immediately, the king sent a guard and ordered him to bring John’s head. The guard cut off John’s head in prison. 28 Then he brought the head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.
29 When John’s disciples heard about this, they came for his body and laid it in a tomb.
Jesus Feeds Five Thousand(B)
30 The apostles gathered around Jesus. They reported to him everything they had done and taught. 31 So he said to them, “Let’s go to a place where we can be alone to rest for a while.” Many people were coming and going, and Jesus and the apostles didn’t even have a chance to eat.
32 So they went away in a boat to a place where they could be alone. 33 But many people saw them leave and recognized them. The people ran from all the cities and arrived ahead of them. 34 When Jesus got out of the boat, he saw a large crowd and felt sorry for them. They were like sheep without a shepherd. So he spent a lot of time teaching them.

14 Oyó el rey Herodes la fama de Jesús, porque su nombre se había hecho notorio; y dijo: Juan el Bautista ha resucitado de los muertos, y por eso actúan en él estos poderes. 15 Otros decían: Es Elías. Y otros decían: Es un profeta, o alguno de los profetas.(A) 16 Al oír esto Herodes, dijo: Este es Juan, el que yo decapité, que ha resucitado de los muertos. 17 Porque el mismo Herodes había enviado y prendido a Juan, y le había encadenado en la cárcel por causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano; pues la había tomado por mujer. 18 Porque Juan decía a Herodes: No te es lícito tener la mujer de tu hermano.(B) 19 Pero Herodías le acechaba, y deseaba matarle, y no podía; 20 porque Herodes temía a Juan, sabiendo que era varón justo y santo, y le guardaba a salvo; y oyéndole, se quedaba muy perplejo, pero le escuchaba de buena gana. 21 Pero venido un día oportuno, en que Herodes, en la fiesta de su cumpleaños, daba una cena a sus príncipes y tribunos y a los principales de Galilea, 22 entrando la hija de Herodías, danzó, y agradó a Herodes y a los que estaban con él a la mesa; y el rey dijo a la muchacha: Pídeme lo que quieras, y yo te lo daré. 23 Y le juró: Todo lo que me pidas te daré, hasta la mitad de mi reino. 24 Saliendo ella, dijo a su madre: ¿Qué pediré? Y ella le dijo: La cabeza de Juan el Bautista. 25 Entonces ella entró prontamente al rey, y pidió diciendo: Quiero que ahora mismo me des en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista. 26 Y el rey se entristeció mucho; pero a causa del juramento, y de los que estaban con él a la mesa, no quiso desecharla. 27 Y en seguida el rey, enviando a uno de la guardia, mandó que fuese traída la cabeza de Juan. 28 El guarda fue, le decapitó en la cárcel, y trajo su cabeza en un plato y la dio a la muchacha, y la muchacha la dio a su madre. 29 Cuando oyeron esto sus discípulos, vinieron y tomaron su cuerpo, y lo pusieron en un sepulcro.

30 Entonces los apóstoles se juntaron con Jesús, y le contaron todo lo que habían hecho, y lo que habían enseñado. 31 Él les dijo: Venid vosotros aparte a un lugar desierto, y descansad un poco. Porque eran muchos los que iban y venían, de manera que ni aun tenían tiempo para comer. 32 Y se fueron solos en una barca a un lugar desierto. 33 Pero muchos los vieron ir, y le reconocieron; y muchos fueron allá a pie desde las ciudades, y llegaron antes que ellos, y se juntaron a él. 34 Y salió Jesús y vio una gran multitud, y tuvo compasión de ellos, porque eran como ovejas que no tenían pastor;(C) y comenzó a enseñarles muchas cosas.

16 Ирод же, услышав, сказал: это Иоанн, которого я обезглавил; он воскрес из мертвых.
17 Ибо сей Ирод, послав, взял Иоанна и заключил его в темницу за Иродиаду, жену Филиппа, брата своего, потому что женился на ней.
18 Ибо Иоанн говорил Ироду: не должно тебе иметь жену брата твоего.
19 Иродиада же, злобясь на него, желала убить его; но не могла.
20 Ибо Ирод боялся Иоанна, зная, что он муж праведный и святой, и берёг его; многое делал, слушаясь его, и с удовольствием слушал его.
21 Настал удобный день, когда Ирод, по случаю [дня] рождения своего, делал пир вельможам своим, тысяченачальникам и старейшинам Галилейским, --
22 дочь Иродиады вошла, плясала и угодила Ироду и возлежавшим с ним; царь сказал девице: проси у меня, чего хочешь, и дам тебе;
23 и клялся ей: чего ни попросишь у меня, дам тебе, даже до половины моего царства.
24 Она вышла и спросила у матери своей: чего просить? Та отвечала: головы Иоанна Крестителя.
25 И она тотчас пошла с поспешностью к царю и просила, говоря: хочу, чтобы ты дал мне теперь же на блюде голову Иоанна Крестителя.
26 Царь опечалился, но ради клятвы и возлежавших с ним не захотел отказать ей.
27 И тотчас, послав оруженосца, царь повелел принести голову его.
28 Он пошел, отсек ему голову в темнице, и принес голову его на блюде, и отдал ее девице, а девица отдала ее матери своей.
29 Ученики его, услышав, пришли и взяли тело его, и положили его во гробе.
30 И собрались Апостолы к Иисусу и рассказали Ему все, и что сделали, и чему научили.
31 Он сказал им: пойдите вы одни в пустынное место и отдохните немного, --ибо много было приходящих и отходящих, так что и есть им было некогда.
32 И отправились в пустынное место в лодке одни.
33 Народ увидел, [как] они отправлялись, и многие узнали их; и бежали туда пешие из всех городов, и предупредили их, и собрались к Нему.
34 Иисус, выйдя, увидел множество народа и сжалился над ними, потому что они были, как овцы, не имеющие пастыря; и начал учить их много.
