¹¹ The angel of the Lord^(A) also said to her:

¹⁵ So Hagar^(A) bore Abram a son,^(B) and Abram gave the name Ishmael^(C) to the son she had borne.

² Sarah became pregnant and bore a son^(A) to Abraham in his old age,^(B) at the very time God had promised him.^{(C) 3} Abraham gave the name Isaac^[a](D) to the son Sarah bore him.

²² For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman^(A) and the other by the free woman.^{(B) 23} His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh,^(C) but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.^(D)

¹¹ And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age,^(A) was enabled to bear children^(B) because she^[a] considered him faithful^(C) who had made the promise.
