Genesis 15:8-10
Amplified Bible
8 But Abram said, “Lord [a]God, by what [proof] will I know that I will inherit it?” 9 So God said to him, “Bring Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” 10 So Abram brought all these to Him and [b]cut them down the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds.

- Genesis 15:8 Heb YHWH, usually rendered Lord.
- Genesis 15:10 This was preparation for an ancient ceremony that formally bound two parties to an agreement or covenant (v 18). Reference is made to the ceremony in Jer 34:18, but details are not given elsewhere in Scripture.
Genesis 15:8-10
New International Version
8 But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord,(A) how can I know(B) that I will gain possession of it?”(C)
9 So the Lord said to him, “Bring me a heifer,(D) a goat and a ram, each three years old,(E) along with a dove and a young pigeon.(F)”
10 Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other;(G) the birds, however, he did not cut in half.(H)
