¹³ God said to Abram, “Know for certain that ^(A)your ^[a]descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, ^[b]where ^(B)they will be enslaved and oppressed ^(C)four hundred years. ¹⁴ But I will also judge the nation whom they will serve, and afterward they will come out ^(D)with ^[c]many possessions. ¹⁵ As for you, ^(E)you shall go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age. ¹⁶ Then in ^(F)the fourth generation they will return here, for ^(G)the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.”

¹⁷ It came about when the sun had set, that it was very dark, and behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a flaming torch which ^(H)passed between these pieces. ¹⁸ On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying,

^19 (K)the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite ²⁰ and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim ²¹ and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.”

^4 (A)I will go down with you to Egypt, and ^(B)I will also surely bring you up again; and ^(C)Joseph will ^[a]close your eyes.”

²⁴ Joseph said to his brothers, “^(A)I am about to die, but God will surely ^[a]take care of you and bring you up from this land to the land which He ^[b]promised on oath to ^(B)Abraham, to ^(C)Isaac and to ^(D)Jacob.” ²⁵ Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely ^[c]take care of you, and ^(E)you shall carry my bones up from here.”
