Abram and Lot Separate
13 So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb.
2 Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. 3 He journeyed on by stages from the Negeb as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, 4 to the place where he had made an altar at the first; and there Abram called on the name of the Lord. 5 Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents, 6 so that the land could not support both of them living together; for their possessions were so great that they could not live together, 7 and there was strife between the herders of Abram’s livestock and the herders of Lot’s livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites lived in the land.
8 Then Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herders and my herders; for we are kindred. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left.” 10 Lot looked about him, and saw that the plain of the Jordan was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar; this was before the Lord had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. 11 So Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward; thus they separated from each other. 12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the Plain and moved his tent as far as Sodom. 13 Now the people of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord.
14 The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Raise your eyes now, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; 15 for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring[a] forever. 16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth; so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted. 17 Rise up, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you.” 18 So Abram moved his tent, and came and settled by the oaks[b] of Mamre, which are at Hebron; and there he built an altar to the Lord.

13 (A)Abramo dunque risalì dall’Egitto con sua moglie, con tutto quel che possedeva e con Lot, andando verso la regione meridionale. 2 Abramo era molto ricco di bestiame, d’argento e d’oro. 3 E continuò il suo viaggio dal meridione fino a Betel, al luogo dove da principio era stata la sua tenda, fra Betel e Ai, 4 al luogo dov’era l’altare che egli aveva fatto prima; e lì Abramo invocò il nome del Signore.
5 Ora Lot, che viaggiava con Abramo, aveva anch’egli pecore, buoi e tende. 6 Il paese non era sufficiente perché essi potessero abitarvi insieme, poiché il loro bestiame[a] era numeroso ed essi non potevano stare insieme. 7 Scoppiò una lite fra i pastori del bestiame di Abramo e i pastori del bestiame di Lot. I Cananei e i Ferezei abitavano a quel tempo nel paese. 8 Allora Abramo disse a Lot: «Ti prego, non ci sia discordia tra me e te, né tra i miei pastori e i tuoi pastori, perché siamo fratelli! 9 Tutto il paese non sta forse davanti a te? Ti prego, sepàrati da me! Se tu vai a sinistra, io andrò a destra; se tu vai a destra, io andrò a sinistra». 10 Lot alzò gli occhi e vide l’intera pianura del Giordano. Prima che il Signore avesse distrutto Sodoma e Gomorra, essa era tutta irrigata fino a Soar, come il giardino del Signore, come il paese d’Egitto. 11 Lot scelse per sé tutta la pianura del Giordano e partì andando verso oriente. Così si separarono l’uno dall’altro. 12 Abramo si stabilì nel paese di Canaan, Lot abitò nelle città della pianura e andò piantando le sue tende fino a Sodoma. 13 Gli abitanti di Sodoma erano perversi e grandi peccatori contro il Signore.
Promesse ad Abramo
14 (B)Il Signore disse ad Abramo, dopo che Lot si fu separato da lui: «Alza ora gli occhi e guarda, dal luogo dove sei, a settentrione, a meridione, a oriente, a occidente. 15 Tutto il paese che vedi lo darò a te e alla tua discendenza, per sempre. 16 E renderò la tua discendenza come la polvere della terra; in modo che, se qualcuno può contare la polvere della terra, potrà contare anche i tuoi discendenti. 17 Àlzati, percorri il paese quant’è lungo e quant’è largo, perché io lo darò a te».
18 Allora Abramo levò le sue tende e andò ad abitare alle querce di Mamre, che sono a Ebron, e qui costruì un altare al Signore.

13 Und Abram zog mit seiner Frau und mit allem, was er hatte, auch mit Lot, von Ägypten hinauf in den Negev[a].
2 Und Abram war sehr reich geworden an Vieh, Silber und Gold.
3 Und er zog weiter von einem Lagerplatz zum anderen, vom Negev her bis nach Bethel, bis zu dem Ort, wo sein Zelt zuerst gestanden hatte, zwischen Bethel und Ai,
4 an die Stätte des Altars, den er dort zuerst errichtet hatte; und Abram rief dort den Namen des Herrn an.
5 Aber auch Lot, der mit Abram ging, hatte Schafe, Rinder und Zelte.
6 Und das Land ertrug es nicht, dass sie beieinanderwohnten; denn ihre Habe war groß, und sie konnten nicht beieinanderbleiben.
7 Und es entstand Streit zwischen den Hirten über Abrams Vieh und den Hirten über Lots Vieh; auch wohnten zu der Zeit die Kanaaniter und Pheresiter im Land.
8 Da sprach Abram zu Lot: Es soll doch nicht Streit sein zwischen mir und dir, zwischen meinen Hirten und deinen Hirten! Denn wir sind Brüder.
9 Steht dir nicht das ganze Land offen? Trenne dich von mir! Willst du zur Linken, so gehe ich zur Rechten; und willst du zur Rechten, so gehe ich zur Linken!
10 Da hob Lot seine Augen auf und sah die ganze Jordanaue; denn sie war überall bewässert, wie der Garten des Herrn, wie das Land Ägypten, bis nach Zoar hinab, bevor der Herr Sodom und Gomorra zerstörte.
11 Darum erwählte sich Lot die ganze Jordanaue und zog gegen Osten. So trennte sich ein Bruder von dem anderen.
12 Abram wohnte im Land Kanaan, und Lot wohnte in den Städten der Aue, und er schlug sein Zelt auf bis nach Sodom hin.
13 Aber die Leute von Sodom waren sehr böse und sündigten schlimm gegen den Herrn.[b]
Gott erneuert seine Verheißungen an Abram
14 Der Herr aber sprach zu Abram, nachdem sich Lot von ihm getrennt hatte: Hebe doch deine Augen auf und schaue von dem Ort, wo du wohnst, nach Norden, Süden, Osten und Westen!
15 Denn das ganze Land, das du siehst, will ich dir und deinem Samen[c] geben auf ewig.
16 Und ich will deinen Samen machen wie den Staub auf der Erde; wenn ein Mensch den Staub auf der Erde zählen kann, so soll man auch deinen Samen zählen können.
17 Mach dich auf, durchziehe das Land seiner Länge und Breite nach! Denn dir will ich es geben.
18 Da brach Abram auf, kam und wohnte bei den Terebinthen Mamres in Hebron[d] und baute dort dem Herrn einen Altar.

Abrám visszatér Kánaánba
13 Abrám tehát családjával együtt keleti irányban elhagyta Egyiptomot, és visszatért Kánaán földjének déli vidékére. Lót is vele tartott. 2 Abrám ekkorra már nagyon meggazdagodott: rengeteg állata, ezüstje és aranya volt. 3 Apránként észak felé vándorolt, egészen Bételig. Elérkezett arra a helyre, ahol már korábban is táborozott: Bétel és Aj között. Ott ismét sátrat vert. 4 Ez volt az a hely, ahol korábban Abrám oltárt épített az Örökkévalónak. Ott ismét áldozatot mutatott be neki, és imádta őt.
Abrám és Lót elválnak egymástól
5 Eddig Lót is Abrámmal együtt vándorolt. Neki is nyájai és csordái voltak, meg szolgái. 6 Ezért a legelők már szűkösnek bizonyultak ahhoz, hogy Abrám és Lót összes állatait eltartsák. Nem maradhattak tovább együtt, mert mindkettőjüknek nagyon megszaporodtak a nyájaik és a csordáik. 7 Abrám és Lót pásztorai összevesztek a legelők miatt, ráadásul akkoriban még a kánaáni és perizzi népek laktak azon a vidéken.
8 Így hát Abrám átment Lóthoz, és ezt mondta neki: „Lót, kérlek, hallgass meg! Ne legyen tovább összeütközés közöttünk és pásztoraink között, hiszen közös ősapától származunk! 9 Előtted van az egész vidék, váljunk el egymástól! Ha dél felé mész, én északra megyek, ha meg északra fordulsz, én megyek dél felé — de mindenképpen el kell válnunk egymástól!”
10 Lót ekkor körülnézett a vidéken. Látta, hogy a Jordán völgye olyan, mint a jól öntözött kert. Ez ugyanis akkor történt, amikor az Örökkévaló még nem pusztította el Sodomát és Gomorát. A Jordán völgye egészen Cóárig még olyan volt, mint az Örökkévaló kertje, vagy Egyiptom földje. 11 Ezért hát Lót a Jordán völgyét választotta lakóhelyül, és el is indult egész családjával és nyájaival együtt kelet felé. Így vált el egymástól Abrám és Lót. 12 Abrám Kánaán földjén, Lót pedig a Jordán völgyében, a városok között sátorozott. Sodoma közelében vert sátrat. 13 Sodoma lakói azonban nagyon gonoszok voltak, és súlyosan vétkeztek az Örökkévaló ellen.
14 Az Örökkévaló megszólította Abrámot, miután Lót elvált tőle: „Tekints fel, és nézz körül onnan, ahol vagy: észak, dél, kelet és nyugat felé, 15 mert ameddig ellátsz, azt a földet örökre neked és utódaidnak adom! 16 Megszaporítom utódaidat: olyan sokan lesznek, mint a porszemek a földön. Meg sem számlálhatja őket senki, ahogy a porszemeket sem lehet megszámolni. 17 Indulj el hát, járd be ezt a földet széltében-hosszában, mert neked adom!”
18 Abrám tehát elindult, és fokozatosan tovább vándorolt, majd letáborozott és oltárt épített az Örökkévalónak Mamré tölgyesében, amely Hebron mellett fekszik.

13 Abram quitta donc l’Egypte avec sa femme et tout ce qu’il possédait en direction du Néguev. Loth était avec lui. 2 Abram était très riche en troupeaux, en argent et en or. 3 D’étape en étape, il retourna du Néguev jusqu’à Béthel, au lieu où il avait auparavant établi son campement, entre Béthel et Aï, 4 c’est-à-dire à l’endroit où était l’autel qu’il avait précédemment érigé, et il y pria l’Eternel.
5 Loth, qui accompagnait Abram, avait aussi des moutons, des chèvres, des bovins et des tentes, 6 et le pays ne suffisait pas pour qu’ils puissent demeurer ensemble, car leurs troupeaux étaient trop nombreux, ils ne pouvaient pas rester ensemble. 7 Il y eut une dispute entre les bergers d’Abram et ceux de Loth ; or les Cananéens et les Phéréziens[a] habitaient alors le pays. 8 Abram dit à Loth : Nous sommes de la même famille. Qu’il n’y ait donc pas de dispute entre nous, entre mes bergers et les tiens. 9 Séparons-nous plutôt. Tout le pays est à ta disposition. Si tu vas à gauche, j’irai à droite, et si tu vas à droite, j’irai à gauche.
10 Loth regarda et vit toute la plaine du Jourdain qui s’étendait jusqu’à Tsoar : avant que l’Eternel eût détruit Sodome et Gomorrhe[b], elle était comme le jardin de l’Eternel, comme la terre d’Egypte. 11 Loth choisit donc pour lui toute la plaine du Jourdain et il se dirigea vers l’est. Ainsi, ils se séparèrent l’un de l’autre. 12 Abram se fixa dans le pays de Canaan, et Loth s’établit au milieu des villes de la plaine, dressant ses tentes jusqu’à Sodome. 13 Or, les gens de Sodome étaient mauvais, ils commettaient beaucoup de péchés contre l’Eternel.
Abram parcourt le pays promis
14 L’Eternel dit à Abram après que Loth se fut séparé de lui : Lève les yeux et regarde depuis l’endroit où tu es, vers le nord, le sud, l’est et l’ouest : 15 tout le pays que tu vois, je te le donnerai, à toi et à ta descendance pour toujours. 16 Je rendrai ta descendance aussi nombreuse que les grains de poussière de la terre ; si l’on peut compter les grains de poussière de la terre, alors on pourra aussi compter ta descendance. 17 Lève-toi, parcours le pays en long et en large car je te le donnerai.
18 Alors Abram déplaça son campement et vint se fixer près des chênes de Mamré aux environs d’Hébron[c], et il bâtit là un autel à l’Eternel.
