¹⁰ Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the ^[a](A)valley of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere—this was before the Lord ^(B)destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like ^(C)the garden of the Lord, ^(D)like the land of Egypt as you go to ^(E)Zoar. ¹¹ So Lot chose for himself all the ^[b]valley of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. Thus they separated from each other. ¹² Abram ^[c]settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot ^[d]settled in ^(F)the cities of the ^[e]valley, and moved his tents as far as Sodom. ¹³ Now ^(G)the men of Sodom were wicked ^[f]exceedingly and ^(H)sinners against the Lord.

²⁰ And the Lord said, “^(A)The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave.

⁴⁸ As I live,” declares the Lord God, “Sodom, your sister and her daughters have ^(A)not done as you and your daughters have done. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had ^(B)arrogance, ^(C)abundant food and ^(D)careless ease, but she did not ^[a]help the ^(E)poor and needy.

⁵³ “Nevertheless, I will restore their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and ^[a]along with them ^[b]your own captivity, ⁵⁴ in order that you may bear your humiliation and feel ^(A)ashamed for all that you have done when you become ^(B)a consolation to them. ⁵⁵ Your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, ^[c]will return to their former state, and you with your daughters will also return to your former state. ⁵⁶ As the name of your sister Sodom was not heard from your lips in your day of pride,

⁶¹ Then you will ^(A)remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters, both your older and your younger; and I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of your covenant.
