33 Giacobbe alzò gli occhi, guardò e vide arrivare Esaú, che aveva con sé quattrocento uomini. Allora divise i figli fra Lea, Rachele e le due serve.
2 In testa mise le serve e i loro figli, poi Lea e i suoi figli, e da ultimo Rachele e Giuseppe.
3 Egli stesso passò davanti a loro e s'inchinò fino a terra sette volte, finché giunse vicino a suo fratello.
4 Allora Esaú gli corse incontro, l'abbracciò, gli si gettò al collo e lo baciò; e piansero.
5 Poi Esaú alzò gli occhi e vide le donne e i fanciulli, e disse: «Chi sono questi con te?». Giacobbe rispose: «Sono i figli che DIO si è compiaciuto di dare al tuo servo».
6 Allora si avvicinarono le serve, esse e i loro figli, e s'inchinarono.
7 Si avvicinarono anche Lea e i suoi figli, e s'inchinarono. Poi si avvicinarono Giuseppe e Rachele, e s'inchinarono.
8 Esaú disse: «Che vuoi fare di tutta quella schiera che ho incontrato?». Giacobbe rispose: «E' per trovare grazia agli occhi del mio signore».
9 Allora Esaú disse: «Ne ho già abbastanza, fratello mio; tieni per te ciò che è tuo».
10 Ma Giacobbe disse: No, ti prego; se ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, accetta il mio dono dalla mia mano, perché vedere la tua faccia, per me è stato come vedere la faccia di DIO, e tu mi hai fatto una buona accoglienza.
11 Deh, accetta il mio dono che ti è stato recato, perché DIO mi ha usato grande bontà, e perché ho tutto». E insisté tanto, che Esaú accettò.
12 Poi Esaú disse: «Partiamo, incamminiamoci e io andrò davanti a te».
13 Ma Giacobbe rispose: «Il mio signore sa che i fanciulli sono di tenera età e che ho con me delle pecore e delle mucche che allattano; se le fanno strapazzare anche un solo giorno, tutte le bestie moriranno.
14 Deh, passi il mio signore prima del suo servo, e io me ne verrò pian piano, al passo del bestiame che mi precede e al passo dei fanciulli, finché arrivi presso al mio signore, a Seir».
15 Esaú allora disse: «Permetti almeno che io lasci con te un po' della gente che ho con me». Ma Giacobbe rispose: «Perché fare ciò? Basta che io trovi grazia agli occhi del mio signore».
16 Così, in quel giorno stesso, Esaú ritornò sul suo cammino verso Seir.
17 Giacobbe partì alla volta di Sukkoth, costruì una casa per sé e fece delle capanne per il suo bestiame; perciò quel luogo fu chiamato Sukkoth.
18 Poi Giacobbe, tornando da Paddan-Aram, arrivò sano e salvo alla città di Sichem, nel paese di Canaan, e piantò le tende di fronte alla città.
19 E comprò dai figli di Hamor, padre di Sichem, per cento pezzi di denaro, la parte del campo dove aveva piantato le sue tende.
20 Poi là eresse un altare e lo chiamò El-Elohey-Israel.

Примирение Якуба с Есавом
33 Якуб посмотрел и увидел, что идёт Есав, и с ним четыреста человек. Он разделил детей между Лией, Рахилёй и двумя служанками. 2 Якуб поставил служанок и их детей впереди, Лию и её детей за ними, а Рахилю с Юсуфом позади всех. 3 Сам же он пошёл вперёд и, приближаясь к своему брату, поклонился до земли семь раз. 4 Но Есав побежал Якубу навстречу, обнял его, бросился ему на шею и расцеловал его; и они заплакали. 5 Есав посмотрел, увидел женщин и детей и спросил:
– Кто это с тобой?
Якуб ответил:
– Это дети, которых Аллах милостиво дал твоему рабу.
6 Подошли служанки со своими детьми и поклонились. 7 Потом подошли и поклонились Лия и её дети. После всех подошли Юсуф и Рахиля и тоже поклонились.
8 Есав спросил Якуба:
– Почему ты послал все эти стада мне навстречу?
– Я хотел найти расположение в твоих глазах, мой господин, – ответил он.
9 Есав сказал:
– У меня всего вдоволь, брат. Оставь своё себе.
10 – Нет, прошу тебя! – сказал Якуб. – Если я нашёл расположение в твоих глазах, то прими от меня этот дар. Для меня видеть твоё лицо – это как увидеть лицо Аллаха, ты ведь принял меня так милостиво. 11 Пожалуйста, прими от меня эти дары, потому что Аллах был милостив ко мне, и у меня есть всё, что мне нужно.
Якуб настаивал и Есав принял дары. 12 Потом Есав сказал:
– Идём, пора отправляться в путь; я буду держаться рядом с тобой.
13 Но Якуб ответил:
– Мой господин знает, что дети слабы и что я должен заботиться о дойных овцах и коровах: если их сильно гнать хотя бы один день, то животные погибнут. 14 Так что пусть мой господин идёт впереди своего раба, а я пойду медленно, как смогут идти стада впереди меня, и как смогут идти дети, пока не приду к моему господину в Сеир.
15 Есав сказал:
– Позволь мне оставить с тобой несколько моих людей.
– Зачем же? – спросил Якуб. – Достаточно и того, что я нашёл расположение в глазах моего господина.
16 И Есав в тот же день отправился в обратный путь к себе в Сеир. 17 Якуб же пошёл в Суккот, где он построил себе жилище и сделал шалаши для скота. Вот почему это место называется Суккот («шалаши»).
18 Придя из Паддан-Арама, Якуб благополучно прибыл в город Шехем в Ханаане и поселился перед городом. 19 За сто мер серебра[a] он купил у сыновей Еммора, отца Шехема, участок земли, на котором поставил свой шатёр. 20 Там он установил жертвенник и назвал его Ил-Илохе-Исраил («Всевышний, Бог Исраила»).

33 And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.
2 And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.
3 And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4 And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.
5 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.
6 Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.
7 And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.
8 And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.
9 And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.
10 And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.
11 Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.
12 And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.
13 And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.
14 Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.
15 And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.
16 So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.
17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
18 And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city.
19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for an hundred pieces of money.
20 And he erected there an altar, and called it EleloheIsrael.

So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two maidservants. 2 And he put the maidservants and their children in front, Leah and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last. 3 Then he crossed over before them and (B)bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4 (C)But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, (D)and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept. 5 And he lifted his eyes and saw the women and children, and said, “Who are these with you?”
So he said, “The children (E)whom God has graciously given your servant.” 6 Then the maidservants came near, they and their children, and bowed down. 7 And Leah also came near with her children, and they bowed down. Afterward Joseph and Rachel came near, and they bowed down.
8 Then Esau said, “What do you mean by (F)all this company which I met?”
And he said, “These are (G)to find favor in the sight of my lord.”
9 But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.”
10 And Jacob said, “No, please, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present from my hand, inasmuch as I (H)have seen your face as though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me. 11 Please, take (I)my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt (J)graciously with me, and because I have [a]enough.” (K)So he urged him, and he took it.
12 Then Esau said, “Let us take our journey; let us go, and I will go before you.”
13 But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are weak, and the flocks and herds which are nursing are with me. And if the men should drive them hard one day, all the flock will die. 14 Please let my lord go on ahead before his servant. I will lead on slowly at a pace which the livestock that go before me, and the children, [b]are able to endure, until I come to my lord (L)in Seir.”
15 And Esau said, “Now let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.”
But he said, “What need is there? (M)Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.” 16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir. 17 And Jacob journeyed to (N)Succoth, built himself a house, and made [c]booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called [d]Succoth.
Jacob Comes to Canaan
18 Then Jacob came [e]safely to (O)the city of (P)Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram; and he pitched his tent before the city. 19 And (Q)he bought the parcel of [f]land, where he had pitched his tent, from the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money. 20 Then he erected an altar there and called it (R)El[g] Elohe Israel.

Jacob Meets Esau
33 Jacob looked up and there was Esau, coming with his four hundred men;(A) so he divided the children among Leah, Rachel and the two female servants.(B) 2 He put the female servants and their children(C) in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph(D) in the rear. 3 He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground(E) seven times(F) as he approached his brother.
4 But Esau(G) ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him.(H) And they wept.(I) 5 Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. “Who are these with you?” he asked.
Jacob answered, “They are the children God has graciously given your servant.(J)”
6 Then the female servants and their children(K) approached and bowed down.(L) 7 Next, Leah and her children(M) came and bowed down.(N) Last of all came Joseph and Rachel,(O) and they too bowed down.
8 Esau asked, “What’s the meaning of all these flocks and herds I met?”(P)
“To find favor in your eyes, my lord,”(Q) he said.
9 But Esau said, “I already have plenty,(R) my brother. Keep what you have for yourself.”
10 “No, please!” said Jacob. “If I have found favor in your eyes,(S) accept this gift(T) from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God,(U) now that you have received me favorably.(V) 11 Please accept the present(W) that was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me(X) and I have all I need.”(Y) And because Jacob insisted,(Z) Esau accepted it.
12 Then Esau said, “Let us be on our way; I’ll accompany you.”
13 But Jacob said to him, “My lord(AA) knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young.(AB) If they are driven hard just one day, all the animals will die. 14 So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the flocks and herds(AC) before me and the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.(AD)”
15 Esau said, “Then let me leave some of my men with you.”
“But why do that?” Jacob asked. “Just let me find favor in the eyes of my lord.”(AE)
16 So that day Esau started on his way back to Seir.(AF) 17 Jacob, however, went to Sukkoth,(AG) where he built a place for himself and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place is called Sukkoth.[a]
18 After Jacob came from Paddan Aram,[b](AH) he arrived safely at the city of Shechem(AI) in Canaan and camped within sight of the city. 19 For a hundred pieces of silver,[c] he bought from the sons of Hamor,(AJ) the father of Shechem,(AK) the plot of ground(AL) where he pitched his tent.(AM) 20 There he set up an altar(AN) and called it El Elohe Israel.[d]
