28 以撒把雅各叫来，给他祝福，又嘱咐他说：“你不要娶迦南的女子为妻。 2 马上去巴旦·亚兰，到你外祖父彼土利家，在你舅父拉班的女儿中选一个做妻子。 3 愿全能的上帝赐福给你，使你的子孙众多，成为许多民族。 4 愿上帝把赐给亚伯拉罕的福气赐给你和你的后代，让你承受你寄居之地为产业，就是上帝赐给亚伯拉罕的地方。” 5 以撒让雅各前往巴旦·亚兰，去亚兰人彼土利的儿子拉班那里。拉班是雅各和以扫的舅父。
6 以扫看见父亲给雅各祝福，让他到巴旦·亚兰娶妻，叮嘱他不要娶迦南的女子， 7 又看见雅各听从父母到巴旦·亚兰去了， 8 就知道父亲以撒不喜欢迦南的女子。 9 他便到亚伯拉罕的儿子以实玛利那里，娶了以实玛利的女儿、尼拜约的妹妹玛哈拉为妻。他娶玛哈拉以前已经有两个妻子了。
雅各的梦
10 雅各离开别示巴，前往哈兰。 11 到了一个地方，太阳已经下山，他便在那里过夜。他枕着一块石头睡觉， 12 梦中看见有个梯子立在地上，直通到天上，梯子上有上帝的天使上上下下。 13 耶和华站在梯子上[a]对雅各说：“我是耶和华，是你祖父亚伯拉罕的上帝，也是以撒的上帝。我要把你现在躺卧的地方赐给你和你的后代。 14 你的后代必多如地上的尘沙，遍布四方，地上万族必因你和你的后代而蒙福。 15 我与你同在，无论你去哪里，我都会保护你，领你返回这片土地。我必实现对你的应许，决不离弃你。”
16 雅各一觉醒来，说：“耶和华居然在这里，我却不知道。” 17 他就害怕起来，说：“这地方何等可畏！这里是上帝的家，是通天的大门。”
18 雅各清早起来，把枕的那块石头立成柱子作记号，在上面浇上油。 19 他称那地方为伯特利[b]，那地方以前叫路斯。 20 雅各许愿说：“如果上帝与我同在，在路上保护我，供给我衣食， 21 带领我平安地回到父亲的家，我就一定敬奉耶和华为我的上帝。 22 我立为柱子的这块石头必成为上帝的殿。凡你赐给我的，我必把十分之一献给你。”

28 Allora Isacco chiamò Giacobbe, lo benedisse e gli diede questo comando: «Tu non devi prender moglie tra le figlie di Canaan. 2 Su, và in Paddan-Aram, nella casa di Betuèl, padre di tua madre, e prenditi di là la moglie tra le figlie di Làbano, fratello di tua madre. 3 Ti benedica Dio onnipotente, ti renda fecondo e ti moltiplichi, sì che tu divenga una assemblea di popoli. 4 Conceda la benedizione di Abramo a te e alla tua discendenza con te, perché tu possieda il paese dove sei stato forestiero, che Dio ha dato ad Abramo». 5 Così Isacco fece partire Giacobbe, che andò in Paddan-Aram presso Làbano, figlio di Betuèl, l'Arameo, fratello di Rebecca, madre di Giacobbe e di Esaù.

6 Esaù vide che Isacco aveva benedetto Giacobbe e l'aveva mandato in Paddan-Aram per prendersi una moglie di là e che, mentre lo benediceva, gli aveva dato questo comando: «Non devi prender moglie tra le Cananee». 7 Giacobbe aveva obbedito al padre e alla madre ed era partito per Paddan-Aram. 8 Esaù comprese che le figlie di Canaan non erano gradite a suo padre Isacco. 9 Allora si recò da Ismaele e, oltre le mogli che aveva, si prese in moglie Macalat, figlia di Ismaele, figlio di Abramo, sorella di Nebaiòt.
Il sogno di Giacobbe
10 Giacobbe partì da Bersabea e si diresse verso Carran. 11 Capitò così in un luogo, dove passò la notte, perché il sole era tramontato; prese una pietra, se la pose come guanciale e si coricò in quel luogo. 12 Fece un sogno: una scala poggiava sulla terra, mentre la sua cima raggiungeva il cielo; ed ecco gli angeli di Dio salivano e scendevano su di essa. 13 Ecco il Signore gli stava davanti e disse: «Io sono il Signore, il Dio di Abramo tuo padre e il Dio di Isacco. La terra sulla quale tu sei coricato la darò a te e alla tua discendenza. 14 La tua discendenza sarà come la polvere della terra e ti estenderai a occidente e ad oriente, a settentrione e a mezzogiorno. E saranno benedette per te e per la tua discendenza tutte le nazioni della terra. 15 Ecco io sono con te e ti proteggerò dovunque tu andrai; poi ti farò ritornare in questo paese, perché non ti abbandonerò senza aver fatto tutto quello che t'ho detto». 16 Allora Giacobbe si svegliò dal sonno e disse: «Certo, il Signore è in questo luogo e io non lo sapevo». 17 Ebbe timore e disse: «Quanto è terribile questo luogo! Questa è proprio la casa di Dio, questa è la porta del cielo». 18 Alla mattina presto Giacobbe si alzò, prese la pietra che si era posta come guanciale, la eresse come una stele e versò olio sulla sua sommità. 19 E chiamò quel luogo Betel, mentre prima di allora la città si chiamava Luz. 20 Giacobbe fece questo voto: «Se Dio sarà con me e mi proteggerà in questo viaggio che sto facendo e mi darà pane da mangiare e vesti per coprirmi, 21 se ritornerò sano e salvo alla casa di mio padre, il Signore sarà il mio Dio. 22 Questa pietra, che io ho eretta come stele, sarà una casa di Dio; di quanto mi darai io ti offrirò la decima».

28 Allora Isacco chiamò Giacobbe, lo benedisse, gli diede quest'ordine e gli disse: Non prender moglie tra le donne di Canaan.
2 Alzati, va' in Paddan-Aram, alla casa di Bethuel, padre di tua madre, e prenditi di là in moglie una delle figlie di Labano, fratello di tua madre.
3 Dio onnipotente ti benedica, ti renda fruttifero e ti moltiplichi, si che tu divenga un'assemblea di popoli,
4 e ti dia la benedizione di Abrahamo, a te e alla tua discendenza con te, affinché tu possegga il paese dove vivi come uno straniero e che DIO donò ad Abrahamo».
5 Così Isacco fece partire Giacobbe, che andò in Paddan-Aram da Labano, figlio di Betbuel, l'Arameo fratello di Rebecca, madre di Giacobbe e di Esaú.
6 Or Esaú vide che Isacco aveva benedetto Giacobbe e lo aveva mandato in Paddan-Aram per prendersi di là una moglie e, nel benedirlo, gli aveva dato quest'ordine dicendo: «Non prender moglie tra le figlie di Canaan»;

9 andò da Ismaele e prese Mahalath, figlia di Ismaele, figlio di Abrahamo, sorella di Nebajoth, perché fosse sua moglie oltre le mogli che già aveva.
10 Or Giacobbe partì da Beer-Sceba e se ne andò verso Haran.
11 Giunse in un certo luogo e vi passó la notte, perché il sole era già tramontato. Allora prese una delle pietre del luogo, la pose sotto la sua testa e in quel luogo si coricò.
12 E sognò di vedere una scala appoggiata sulla terra, la cui cima toccava il cielo; ed ecco, gli angeli di DIO salivano e scendevano su di essa.
13 Ed ecco l'Eterno stava in cima ad essa e gli disse: «Io sono l'Eterno, il DIO di Abrahamo tuo padre e il DIO di Isacco; la terra sulla quale tu sei coricato la darò a te e alla tua discendenza;
14 e la tua discendenza sarà come la polvere della terra, e tu ti estenderai a ovest e a est a nord e a sud; e tutte le famiglie della terra saranno benedette in te e nella tua discendenza.
15 Ed ecco, io sono con te e ti proteggerò dovunque andrai, e ti ricondurrò in questo paese; poiché non ti abbandonerò prima di aver fatto quello che ti ho detto».
16 Allora Giacobbe si svegliò dal suo sonno e disse: «Certamente l'Eterno è in questo luogo, e io non lo sapevo».
17 Ed ebbe paura e disse: «Come è tremendo questo luogo! Questa non è altro che la casa di DIO, e questa è la porta del cielo!».
18 Così Giacobbe si alzò al mattino presto prese la pietra che aveva posta sotto la sua testa, la eresse come stele e versò dell'olio sulla sua sommità.
19 E chiamò quel luogo Bethel, mentre prima il nome della città era Luz.
20 Poi Giacobbe fece un voto dicendo: «Se DIO sarà con me e mi proteggerà durante questo viaggio che faccio, se mi darà pane da mangiare e vesti da coprirmi,
21 e ritornerò alla casa di mio padre in pace, allora l'Eterno sarà il mio DIO;
22 e questa pietra che ho eretta come stele, sarà la casa di DIO; e di tutto quello che tu mi darai io ti darò la decima».

28 So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed(A) him. Then he commanded him: “Do not marry a Canaanite woman.(B) 2 Go at once to Paddan Aram,[a](C) to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel.(D) Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.(E) 3 May God Almighty[b](F) bless(G) you and make you fruitful(H) and increase your numbers(I) until you become a community of peoples. 4 May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham,(J) so that you may take possession of the land(K) where you now reside as a foreigner,(L) the land God gave to Abraham.” 5 Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way,(M) and he went to Paddan Aram,(N) to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean,(O) the brother of Rebekah,(P) who was the mother of Jacob and Esau.
6 Now Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he commanded him, “Do not marry a Canaanite woman,”(Q) 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram. 8 Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women(R) were to his father Isaac;(S) 9 so he went to Ishmael(T) and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth(U) and daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, in addition to the wives he already had.(V)
Jacob’s Dream at Bethel
10 Jacob left Beersheba(W) and set out for Harran.(X) 11 When he reached a certain place,(Y) he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head(Z) and lay down to sleep. 12 He had a dream(AA) in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.(AB) 13 There above it[c] stood the Lord,(AC) and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac.(AD) I will give you and your descendants the land(AE) on which you are lying.(AF) 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you(AG) will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south.(AH) All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.[d](AI) 15 I am with you(AJ) and will watch over you(AK) wherever you go,(AL) and I will bring you back to this land.(AM) I will not leave you(AN) until I have done what I have promised you.(AO)”(AP)
16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep,(AQ) he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” 17 He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place!(AR) This is none other than the house of God;(AS) this is the gate of heaven.”
18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head(AT) and set it up as a pillar(AU) and poured oil on top of it.(AV) 19 He called that place Bethel,[e](AW) though the city used to be called Luz.(AX)
20 Then Jacob made a vow,(AY) saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me(AZ) on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear(BA) 21 so that I return safely(BB) to my father’s household,(BC) then the Lord[f] will be my God(BD) 22 and[g] this stone that I have set up as a pillar(BE) will be God’s house,(BF) and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.(BG)”
