La Nuova Diodati
14 Ora avvenne al tempo di Amrafel re di Scinar di Ariok re di Ellasar di kedorlaomer re di Elam e di Tideal re delle nazioni,
2 che essi mossero guerra a Bera re di Sodoma, a Birsha re di Gomorra, a Scinab re d Admah, a Scemeber re di Tseboim e al re di Bela, (che è Tsoar).
3 Tutti questi ultimi si radunarono nella valle di Siddim, (che è il Mar Salato).
4 Per dodici anni erano stati soggetti a Kedorlaomer, ma al tredicesimo anno si ribellarono.
5 Nell'anno quattordicesimo, Kedorlaomer e i re che erano con lui vennero e sbaragliarono i giganti ad Ashterotkarnaim, gli Zuzim a Ham, gli Emim a Shaveh-Kiriathaim
6 e gli Horei nella loro montagna di Seir fino a El-Paran, che è presso il deserto.
7 Poi tornarono indietro e vennero a En-Mishpat (che è adesh) e saccheggiarono l'intero territorio degli Amalekiti e anche degli Amorei, che abitavano ad Hatsatson-Tamar.
8 Allora il re di Sodoma, il re di Gomorra, il re di Admah, il re di Tseboim e il re di Bela, (che è Tsoar), uscirono e si schierarono in battaglia contro di loro, nella valle di Siddim;
9 contro Kedorlaomer re di Elam, Tideal re delle nazioni, Amrafel re di Scinar e Ariok re di Ellasar: quattro re contro cinque.
10 Ora la valle di Siddim era piena di pozzi di bitume; e i re di Sodoma e di Gomorra si diedero alla fuga e vi caddero dentro; e quelli che scamparono fuggirono al monte.
11 Così i vincitori presero tutte le ricchezze di Sodoma e di Gomorra e tutti i loro viveri, e se ne andarono.
12 Presero anche Lot, figlio del fratello di Abramo, con i suoi averi, e se ne andarono. Lot abitava in Sodoma.
13 Ma uno degli scampati venne a dirlo ad Abramo l'Ebreo, che abitava alle querce di Mamre, l'Amoreo, fratello di Eshkol e fratello di Aner, i quali avevano fatto alleanza con Abramo.
14 Quando Abramo seppe che suo fratello era stato fatto prigioniero, armò gli uomini addestrati, servi nati in casa sua, in numero di trecentodiciotto, e inseguì i re fino a Dan.
15 Egli divise le sue forze contro di loro di notte, e coi suoi servi li attaccò e li inseguì fino a Hobah, che è a sinistra di Damasco.
16 Così ricuperò tutti i beni e riportò indietro anche Lot suo fratello e i suoi beni, come pure le donne e il popolo.
17 Dopo il suo ritorno dalla sconfitta di Kedorlaomer e dei re che erano con lui, il re di Sodoma gli andò incontro nella valle di Shaveh, (che è la Valle del re).
18 Allora Melchisedek, re di Salem, portò pane e vino. Egli era sacerdote del Dio Altissimo.
19 E benedisse Abramo, dicendo: «Benedetto sia Abramo dal Dio Altissimo, padrone dei cieli e della terra!
20 E benedetto sia il Dio Altissimo, che ti ha dato nelle mani i tuoi nemici!». E Abramo gli diede la decima di ogni cosa.
21 Poi il re di Sodoma disse ad Abramo: «Dammi le persone, e prendi i beni per te».
22 Ma Abramo rispose al re di Sodoma: «Ho alzato la mia mano all'Eterno, il Dio Altissimo, padrone dei cieli e della terra,
23 che non avrei preso niente di ciò che ti appartiene, neppure un filo o un legaccio dei calzari, perché tu non abbia a dire: "Io ho arricchito Abramo".
24 Non prenderò nulla per me ad eccezione di ciò che hanno mangiato i giovani e la parte che spetta agli uomini che sono venuti con me: Aner, Eshkol e Mamre; lascia che essi prendano la loro parte».

14 And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of [a]Goiim, 2 that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar). 3 All these [b]joined together in the vale of Siddim (the same is the Salt Sea). 4 Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. 5 And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in [c]Shaveh-kiriathaim, 6 and the Horites in their mount Seir, unto El-paran, which is by the wilderness. 7 And they returned, and came to En-mishpat (the same is Kadesh), and smote all the [d]country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazazon-tamar. 8 And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar); and they set the battle in array against them in the vale of Siddim; 9 against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings against the five. 10 Now the vale of Siddim was full of [e]slime pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell there, and they that remained fled to the mountain. 11 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way. 12 And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
13 And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew: now he dwelt by the [f]oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner; and these were confederate with Abram. 14 And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan. 15 And he divided himself against them by night, he and his servants, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the [g]left hand of Damascus. 16 And he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
17 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him, after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him, at the vale of Shaveh (the same is the King’s Vale). 18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was priest of [h]God Most High. 19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of [i]God Most High, [j]possessor of heaven and earth: 20 and blessed be [k]God Most High, who hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him a tenth of all. 21 And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself. 22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand unto Jehovah, God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that I will not take a thread nor a shoe-latchet nor aught that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich: 24 [l]save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men that went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.
