Separazione di Abramo e di Lot
13 Dall'Egitto Abram ritornò nel Negheb con la moglie e tutti i suoi averi; Lot era con lui. 2 Abram era molto ricco in bestiame, argento e oro. 3 Poi di accampamento in accampamento egli dal Negheb si portò fino a Betel, fino al luogo dove era stata gia prima la sua tenda, tra Betel e Ai, 4 al luogo dell'altare, che aveva là costruito prima: lì Abram invocò il nome del Signore. 5 Ma anche Lot, che andava con Abram, aveva greggi e armenti e tende. 6 Il territorio non consentiva che abitassero insieme, perché avevano beni troppo grandi e non potevano abitare insieme. 7 Per questo sorse una lite tra i mandriani di Abram e i mandriani di Lot, mentre i Cananei e i Perizziti abitavano allora nel paese. 8 Abram disse a Lot: «Non vi sia discordia tra me e te, tra i miei mandriani e i tuoi, perché noi siamo fratelli. 9 Non sta forse davanti a te tutto il paese? Sepàrati da me. Se tu vai a sinistra, io antra, io andrò a destra; se tu vai a destra, io andrò a sinistra».
10 Allora Lot alzò gli occhi e vide che tutta la valle del Giordano era un luogo irrigato da ogni parte - prima che il Signore distruggesse Sòdoma e Gomorra -; era come il giardino del Signore, come il paese d'Egitto, fino ai pressi di Zoar. 11 Lot scelse per sé tutta la valle del Giordano e trasportò le tende verso oriente. Così si separarono l'uno dall'altro: 12 Abram si stabilì nel paese di Canaan e Lot si stabilì nelle città della valle e piantò le tende vicino a Sòdoma. 13 Ora gli uomini di Sòdoma erano perversi e peccavano molto contro il Signore.
14 Allora il Signore disse ad Abram, dopo che Lot si era separato da lui: «Alza gli occhi e dal luogo dove tu stai spingi lo sguardo verso il settentrione e il mezzogiorno, verso l'oriente e l'occidente. 15 Tutto il paese che tu vedi, io lo darò a te e alla tua discendenza per sempre. 16 Renderò la tua discendenza come la polvere della terra: se uno può contare la polvere della terra, potrà contare anche i tuoi discendenti. 17 Alzati, percorri il paese in lungo e in largo, perché io lo darò a te». 18 Poi Abram si spostò con le sue tende e andò a stabilirsi alle Querce di Mamre, che sono ad Ebron, e vi costruì un altare al Signore.

13 So Abram went up from Egypt to (A)the [a]Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him.
2 Now Abram was (B)very rich in livestock, in silver and in gold. 3 He went [b]on his journeys from the [c]Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, (C)between Bethel and Ai, 4 to the place of the (D)altar which he had made there formerly; and there Abram called on the name of the Lord. 5 Now (E)Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. 6 And (F)the land could not [d]sustain them [e]while dwelling together, (G)for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together. 7 (H)And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. Now (I)the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land.
8 (J)So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me; if to the left, then I will go to the right; or if to the right, then I will go to the left.” 10 Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the [f](K)valley of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere—this was before the Lord (L)destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like (M)the garden of the Lord, (N)like the land of Egypt as you go to (O)Zoar. 11 So Lot chose for himself all the [g]valley of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. Thus they separated from each other. 12 Abram [h]settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot [i]settled in (P)the cities of the [j]valley, and moved his tents as far as Sodom. 13 Now (Q)the men of Sodom were wicked [k]exceedingly and (R)sinners against the Lord.
14 The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “(S)Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, (T)northward and southward and eastward and westward; 15 (U)for all the land which you see, (V)I will give it to you and to your [l]descendants forever. 16 I will make your [m]descendants (W)as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your [n]descendants can also be numbered. 17 Arise, (X)walk about the land through its length and breadth; for (Y)I will give it to you.” 18 Then Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt by the [o](Z)oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built (AA)an altar to the Lord.

Abram and Lot Separate
13 So Abram went up from Egypt(A) to the Negev,(B) with his wife and everything he had, and Lot(C) went with him. 2 Abram had become very wealthy(D) in livestock(E) and in silver and gold.
3 From the Negev(F) he went from place to place until he came to Bethel,(G) to the place between Bethel and Ai(H) where his tent had been earlier 4 and where he had first built an altar.(I) There Abram called on the name of the Lord.(J)
5 Now Lot,(K) who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. 6 But the land could not support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together.(L) 7 And quarreling(M) arose between Abram’s herders and Lot’s. The Canaanites(N) and Perizzites(O) were also living in the land(P) at that time.
8 So Abram said to Lot,(Q) “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me,(R) or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives.(S) 9 Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”(T)
10 Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain(U) of the Jordan toward Zoar(V) was well watered, like the garden of the Lord,(W) like the land of Egypt.(X) (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom(Y) and Gomorrah.)(Z) 11 So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company: 12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan,(AA) while Lot(AB) lived among the cities of the plain(AC) and pitched his tents near Sodom.(AD) 13 Now the people of Sodom(AE) were wicked and were sinning greatly against the Lord.(AF)
14 The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west.(AG) 15 All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring[a] forever.(AH) 16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.(AI) 17 Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land,(AJ) for I am giving it to you.”(AK)
18 So Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre(AL) at Hebron,(AM) where he pitched his tents. There he built an altar to the Lord.(AN)
