12 Ora l'Eterno disse ad Abramo: «Vattene dal tuo paese, dal tuo parentado e dalla casa di tuo padre, nel paese che io ti mostrerò.
2 Io farò di te una grande nazione e ti benedirò e renderò grande il tuo nome e tu sarai una benedizione.
3 E benedirò quelli che ti benediranno e maledirò chi ti maledirà; e in te saranno benedette tutte le famiglie della terra.
4 Allora Abramo partì come l'Eterno gli aveva detto, e Lot andò con lui. Abramo aveva settantacinque anni quando partì da Haran.
5 E Abramo prese Sarai sua moglie e Lot, figlio di suo fratello, e tutti i beni che avevano accumulato e le persone che avevano acquistate in Haran, e partirono per andarsene nel paese di Canaan. Così essi giunsero nel paese di Canaan.
6 Abramo attraversò il paese fino alla località di Sichem, fino alla quercia di Moreh. A quel tempo si trovavano nel paese i Cananei.
7 Allora l'Eterno apparve ad Abramo e disse: «Io darò questo paese alla tua discendenza». Allora Abramo vi costruì un altare all'Eterno che gli era apparso.
8 Di là si spostò verso la montagna a est di Bethel, e piantò le sue tende, avendo Bethel a ovest e Ai a est; e là costruì un altare all'Eterno e invocò il nome dell'Eterno.
9 Poi Abramo si mise in viaggio, continuando a spostarsi verso Neghev. Abramo in Egitto
10 Ora venne nel paese una carestia e Abramo scese in Egitto per dimorarvi, perché nel paese vi era una grande carestia.
11 Ora avvenne che, come stava per entrare in Egitto, disse a Sarai sua moglie: «Ecco, io so che tu sei una donna di bell'aspetto;
12 così avverrà che, quando gli Egiziani ti vedranno, diranno: "Costei è sua moglie"; e uccideranno me, ma lasceranno te in vita.
13 Ti prego, dì che sei mia sorella, perché io sia trattato bene a motivo di te, e la mia vita sia salva per amor tuo».
14 Quando infatti Abramo giunse in Egitto, gli Egiziani videro che la donna era molto bella.
15 La videro anche gli ufficiali del Faraone e la lodarono davanti al Faraone e la donna fu portata in casa del Faraone.
16 Ed egli trattò bene Abramo a motivo di lei. Così Abramo ebbe pecore, buoi, asini, servi, serve, asine e cammelli.
17 Ma l'Eterno colpì Faraone e la sua casa con grandi calamità, a motivo di Sarai, moglie di Abramo.
18 Allora il Faraone chiamò Abramo e disse: «Che cosa mi hai fatto? Perché non mi hai detto che era tua moglie? Perché hai detto:
19 "E' mia sorella"? Così io la presi per essere mia moglie. Ora dunque eccoti tua moglie; prendila e vattene!».
20 Poi il Faraone diede alla sua gente ordini riguardo ad Abramo, ed essi fecero partire lui, sua moglie e tutto quello che aveva.

12 Y el Señor dijo a Abram:
«Vete de tu tierra,
De entre tus parientes
Y de la casa de tu padre,
A la tierra que Yo te mostraré(A).
2 -»Haré de ti una nación grande(B),
Y te bendeciré(C),
Engrandeceré tu nombre,
Y serás[a] bendición(D).
3 -»Bendeciré a los que te bendigan,
Y al que te maldiga, maldeciré[b](E).
En ti serán benditas todas las familias de la tierra(F)».
4 Entonces Abram se fue tal como el Señor le había dicho, y Lot se fue con él(G). Abram tenía 75 años cuando salió de Harán. 5 Abram tomó a Sarai su mujer y a Lot su sobrino, y todas las posesiones(H) que ellos habían acumulado y las personas[c] que habían adquirido en Harán(I), y salieron para ir a la tierra de Canaán; y a la tierra de Canaán llegaron(J). 6 Abram atravesó el país hasta el lugar de Siquem, hasta la encina[d] de More(K). Los cananeos habitaban entonces en esa tierra.
7 El Señor se apareció a Abram(L) y le dijo: «A tu descendencia[e] daré esta tierra(M)». Entonces Abram edificó allí un altar al Señor(N) que se le había aparecido. 8 De allí se trasladó hacia el monte al oriente de Betel[f], y plantó su tienda, teniendo a Betel al occidente(O) y Hai al oriente. Edificó allí un altar al Señor, e invocó el nombre del Señor(P). 9 Y Abram siguió su camino, continuando hacia el Neguev[g](Q).
Abram en Egipto
10 Pero hubo hambre en el país(R), y Abram descendió a Egipto para pasar allí un tiempo, porque el hambre era severa en aquella tierra(S). 11 Cuando se estaba acercando a[h] Egipto, Abram dijo a Sarai su mujer: «Mira, sé que eres una mujer de hermoso parecer(T); 12 y sucederá que cuando te vean los egipcios, dirán: “Esta es su mujer”; y me matarán(U), pero a ti te dejarán vivir. 13 Di, por favor, que eres mi hermana(V), para que me vaya bien por causa tuya, y para que yo[i] viva(W) gracias a ti».
14 Cuando Abram entró en Egipto, los egipcios vieron que la mujer era muy hermosa. 15 La vieron los oficiales de Faraón y la alabaron delante de él[j]. Entonces la mujer fue llevada(X) a la casa de Faraón. 16 Y este trató bien a Abram por causa de ella. Le dio[k] ovejas, vacas, asnos, siervos, siervas(Y), asnas y camellos(Z).
17 Pero el Señor hirió a Faraón y a su casa con grandes plagas por causa de Sarai, mujer de Abram(AA). 18 Entonces Faraón llamó a Abram, y le dijo: «¿Qué es esto que me has hecho(AB)? ¿Por qué no me avisaste que era tu mujer? 19 ¿Por qué dijiste: “Es mi hermana”, de manera que la tomé por mujer? Ahora pues, aquí está[l] tu mujer, tómala y vete». 20 Faraón dio órdenes a sus hombres acerca de Abram[m]; y ellos lo despidieron[n] con su mujer y con todo lo que le pertenecía.

The Call of Abram
12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household(A) to the land(B) I will show you.(C)
2 “I will make you into a great nation,(D)
and I will bless you;(E)
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.[a](F)
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;(G)
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.(H)”[b]
4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot(I) went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old(J) when he set out from Harran.(K) 5 He took his wife Sarai,(L) his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated(M) and the people(N) they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan,(O) and they arrived there.
6 Abram traveled through the land(P) as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh(Q) at Shechem.(R) At that time the Canaanites(S) were in the land. 7 The Lord appeared to Abram(T) and said, “To your offspring[c] I will give this land.(U)”(V) So he built an altar there to the Lord,(W) who had appeared to him.
8 From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel(X) and pitched his tent,(Y) with Bethel on the west and Ai(Z) on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.(AA)
9 Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.(AB)
Abram in Egypt(AC)
10 Now there was a famine in the land,(AD) and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe.(AE) 11 As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai,(AF) “I know what a beautiful woman(AG) you are. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister,(AH) so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.”
14 When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that Sarai was a very beautiful woman.(AI) 15 And when Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace. 16 He treated Abram well for her sake, and Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels.(AJ)
17 But the Lord inflicted(AK) serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household(AL) because of Abram’s wife Sarai. 18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram. “What have you done to me?”(AM) he said. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?(AN) 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’(AO) so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!” 20 Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.

12 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4 So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
7 And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.
8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.
9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.
10 And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15 The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
16 And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
17 And the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.
18 And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
