33 He recognized it and exclaimed: “My son’s tunic! A wild beast has devoured him! Joseph has been torn to pieces!”(A) 34 Then Jacob tore his garments, put sackcloth on his loins, and mourned his son many days. 35 Though his sons and daughters tried to console him, he refused all consolation, saying, “No, I will go down mourning to my son in Sheol.”[a] Thus did his father weep for him.(B)

34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.

34 Then Jacob tore his clothes,(C) put on sackcloth(D) and mourned for his son many days.(E) 35 All his sons and daughters came to comfort him,(F) but he refused to be comforted.(G) “No,” he said, “I will continue to mourn until I join my son(H) in the grave.(I)” So his father wept for him.
