²⁴Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur^(A) on Sodom and Gomorrah^(B)—from the Lord out of the heavens.^(C)

²⁴^(A) Då lät Herren svavel och eld^[a] regna ner från himlen, från Herren, över Sodom och Gomorra.

19:24 svavel och eld Slätten var rik på naturligt förekommande kolväteföreningar (14:10). Än idag ligger en lätt doft av svavel över Döda havet.
