2 But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue[a] childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and (A)a member of my household will be my heir.” 4 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir; (B)your very own son[b] shall be your heir.” 5 And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and (C)number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, (D)“So shall your offspring be.” 6 And (E)he believed the Lord, and (F)he counted it to him as righteousness.

3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

4 Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.(F)” 5 He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars(G)—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring[b] be.”(H)
6 Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.(I)
