¹⁴ And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot ^(A)had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—^(B)northward, southward, eastward, and westward; ¹⁵ for all the land which you see ^(C)I give to you and ^(D)your ^[a]descendants forever.

¹⁷ Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.”

¹³ Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly ^(A)that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and ^(B)they will afflict them four hundred years.

¹⁶ But ^(A)in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity ^(B)of the Amorites ^(C)is not yet complete.”

¹⁸ On the same day the Lord ^(A)made a covenant with Abram, saying:

^(B)“To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates—
