16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (A)you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it (B)you[a] shall surely (C)die.”
18 And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; (D)I will make him a helper comparable to him.” 19 (E)Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and (F)brought them to [b]Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.
21 And the Lord God caused a (G)deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He [c]made into a woman, (H)and He (I)brought her to the man.
23 And Adam said:
“This is now (J)bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called [d]Woman,
Because she was (K)taken out of [e]Man.”
24 (L)Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and (M)be[f] joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
25 (N)And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not (O)ashamed.

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;(A) 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,(B) for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”(C)
18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”(D)
19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals(E) and all the birds in the sky.(F) He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called(G) each living creature,(H) that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam[a] no suitable helper(I) was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep;(J) and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[b] and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[c](K) he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;(L)
she shall be called(M) ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.(N)”
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united(O) to his wife, and they become one flesh.(P)
25 Adam and his wife were both naked,(Q) and they felt no shame.
