¹⁷ “The eye that mocks^(A) a father,
    that scorns an aged mother,
will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley,
    will be eaten by the vultures.^(B)

¹² You should not gloat^(A) over your brother
    in the day of his misfortune,^(B)
nor rejoice^(C) over the people of Judah
    in the day of their destruction,^(D)
nor boast^(E) so much
    in the day of their trouble.^(F)
13 You should not march through the gates of my people
    in the day of their disaster,
nor gloat over them in their calamity^(G)
    in the day of their disaster,
nor seize their wealth
    in the day of their disaster.

⁹ If you take your neighbor to court,
    do not betray another’s confidence,

³ May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”^(A)
    turn back because of their shame.
